Job description

The platform brings together products from multiple garden centres into one storefront, with live stock and pricing, online payments, delivery and collection options, and dashboards for customers, merchants and administrators.

Development is already underway. We need someone who can review the existing build, establish what is complete, identify any gaps and lead the remaining development through to launch.

The role

You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing the existing codebase, architecture and integrations.
  • Building and completing the customer storefront, merchant portal and admin dashboard.
  • Developing a shared product catalogue with listings from multiple sellers.
  • Integrating POS data, including products, stock, prices and orders.
  • Building reliable synchronisation processes with validation, retries, logging and error handling.
  • Implementing multi-vendor baskets, checkout, order splitting, delivery and click and collect.
  • Integrating Stripe Connect for merchant onboarding, payments, payouts and refunds.
  • Developing product search, location-based seller selection and product matching.
  • Completing account features, reviews, Q&A, content and reporting functionality.
  • Managing deployment, security, testing, monitoring and technical documentation.

Technical environment

The project architecture currently specifies:

  • Next.js, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.
  • Node.js and Medusa.js.
  • PostgreSQL.
  • Redis / BullMQ for background jobs and integration queues.
  • Algolia for search.
  • Stripe Connect.
  • AWS infrastructure and CI/CD deployment.

You will need to validate the existing implementation against this architecture and recommend practical improvements where necessary.

Requirements

  • Strong experience delivering full stack applications used by real customers.
  • Experience with ecommerce or multi-vendor marketplaces.
  • Hands-on experience with Stripe Connect or similarly complex payment integrations.
  • Experience integrating external APIs, ideally POS, inventory or order management systems.
  • A solid understanding of database design, background jobs and data synchronisation.
  • Confidence reviewing and taking over an existing codebase.
  • The ability to own delivery from technical planning through to production launch.
  • Clear communication, realistic estimates and a practical approach to solving problems.

Experience with Medusa.js, WinRetail, catalogue reconciliation or marketplace search would be particularly useful.
