Job description
- Laravel for our back-end applications and APIs
- React (with TypeScript) for our customer and colleague-facing front ends
- WordPress and WooCommerce for our eCommerce web store
You will work across the whole customer journey: the web store where customers sign up, the customer account portal where they manage their deliveries and subscriptions, and the canvassing applications our field teams use to win new customers.
Behind those sit Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM and Chargebee subscription billing, so a large part of the job is making our applications and those systems work well together.
This is a senior, hands-on role. We want someone who can design a solution, build it, ship it and support it, and who can explain what they are doing to colleagues who are not developers.
Hybrid working: 3 days a week in our Glasgow office (Port Dundas).
Life at McQueens
Life at McQueens is fun, fast-paced and rarely predictable. We have ambitious new products on the horizon, as well as opportunities to improve the platforms our customers and colleagues already use every day.
Do not expect every challenge to arrive as a neat, fully defined specification. You will ask questions, make sense of ambiguity and help shape the right solution. There is a deep end here, and you will be in it sooner than you expect. For the right person, that is part of the appeal. We are friendly, practical and focused on getting useful things into people’s hands, so if you enjoy ownership, variety and visible impact, you should feel at home here.
What You Will Work On
Customer Account Portal (Laravel and React)
- Develop and maintain the portal customers use to manage their deliveries, holidays, subscriptions and payments
- Build clear, reliable self-service journeys that reduce calls to customer services
- Own the Laravel API behind the portal, including its integrations with CRM and billing
- Keep the portal fast, secure and dependable as customer numbers grow
Canvassing Applications (Laravel and React)
- Develop and maintain the applications our canvassers use in the field, and the admin tools behind them
- Work with the sales and operations teams to turn their needs into practical features
- Make sure new customers flow cleanly from the doorstep into CRM and billing
eCommerce Web Store (WordPress and WooCommerce)
- Develop and maintain our WooCommerce store, including custom theme and plugin work
- Improve the checkout, conversion and performance of the store
- Keep the store properly connected to the rest of our systems
Integrations
- Design, build and maintain integrations between our applications and Dynamics 365 CRM, Chargebee and other business systems
- Build and consume REST APIs, and work with webhooks, queues and background jobs
- Handle the realities of third-party systems: rate limits, retries, errors and data that does not always agree
- Build in the logging, monitoring and error handling that let us find and fix problems quickly
Engineering
- Take features from requirements through design, build, testing, release and support
- Write clean, tested, maintainable code, and review other people’s
- Work with Git, CI/CD pipelines and separate development, test and production environments
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across several systems
- Help set our technical standards and shape architectural decisions
- Keep security, privacy and maintainability in mind from the start
About You
Communication
This matters as much as the code. You will regularly work with colleagues in customer services, sales, operations and finance, as well as with external partners who look after our CRM.
We are looking for someone who:
- Explains technical ideas in plain English to people who are not developers
- Writes clear tickets, updates and documentation
- Asks good questions to get to the real requirement
- Is comfortable saying “here are the options, and here is what I recommend”
- Keeps people informed without being chased
Requirements
- Senior-level commercial experience as a full stack or web developer
- Strong Laravel experience, including building and maintaining APIs, queues and scheduled jobs
- Strong React experience, ideally with TypeScript
- Solid WordPress and WooCommerce development experience, including custom plugins or themes
- Strong PHP and JavaScript
- Good knowledge of MySQL and SQL
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating with third-party systems
- A good understanding of authentication, web security and secure development
- Experience with Git, automated testing and CI/CD
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across the whole stack
- Building responsive, accessible and fast web applications
Advantageous Experience
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM or the Dataverse Web API
- Chargebee, or another subscription billing platform
- Microsoft Azure, including Microsoft Entra ID (single sign-on)
- Docker
- Filament or other Laravel admin tooling
- Payment gateway integrations
- Subscription or recurring-revenue businesses
- eCommerce checkout and conversion optimisation
- Web analytics and tag management
- Modern data platforms such as Databricks
Direct experience of Dynamics or Chargebee is not essential if you have strong experience integrating with comparable enterprise systems.
Benefits & conditions
- You take ownership and see problems through to the end
- You care about the customer and the colleague using what you build, not just the code
- You balance speed of delivery with quality and security
- You are happy improving what already exists as well as building new things
- You are comfortable working across several systems rather than one
What’s in It for the Right Person?
What you build here is used every day by customers and colleagues. You will have ownership across the customer journey and a say in how our digital platforms develop. With new products taking shape, there is genuine scope to influence what we build and how we build it.
You can expect:
- Visible impact. Your work will reach customers and colleagues quickly.
- Real influence. Help shape solutions and technical decisions.
- Plenty of variety. Move between new products, existing platforms and integrations.
- Ownership with trust. Use your judgement and see work through to production.
- Company from day one. Join alongside another new senior developer.
About McQueens Dairies
McQueens Dairies is a third-generation family business delivering milk and everyday essentials to thousands of households across the UK. We are a Living Wage and Disability Confident employer, and our products earned three Great Taste 1-star awards in 2026.
Interview Process
We keep the process simple and transparent. There are three stages:
- Recorded video screening (10 to 15 minutes) This is the first step for all applicants and is required to progress your application.
It is not a technical interview. With the number of applications we receive, it gives us an efficient way to get to know candidates beyond their CV before deciding who to invite to a live interview. You can complete it in your own time.
-
Technical interview with our Lead Developer A live, two-way interview where we can learn more about your technical experience and you can learn more about the role, our technology and the problems we are solving. This includes a simulated technical exercise based on the kind of work you would do here. There is no live product work.
-
Conversation with our CIO A final two-way conversation about you, McQueens, the role and how we like to work together.
We know that choosing a new role is a decision for both sides. Stages 2 and 3 give you plenty of opportunity to ask questions, understand the business and decide whether McQueens is right for you too., * 4 x death in service cover

We handle applicant information in accordance with our Applicant Privacy Notice, which you can find on our website. Any offer will be subject to proof of the right to work in the UK and satisfactory references.
Ready to Jump In?
This role will not be for everyone, and that is okay. But if you enjoy pace, variety and real ownership, and you like the idea of helping shape new products rather than simply being handed a finished specification, we would love to hear from you.
We are hiring two people, so you will not be taking the leap alone. Bring your experience, your curiosity and your ideas. We will bring plenty of interesting problems to solve.
Pay: £65,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
