Job description

Help ensure mission-critical communication technology performs reliably when people need it most.

We’re looking for a Test Engineer to join an established technology company developing secure communication products used by public safety, defence, transport and utility organisations around the world.

This is a hands-on role covering both manual and automated testing across new and existing products. You’ll work closely with software, hardware and systems engineers, helping to identify defects, improve product quality and ensure complex communication equipment performs reliably in real-world environments.

You don’t need to be a senior engineer or already know everything about TETRA technology. This opportunity would suit someone with a solid foundation in software, systems or product testing who wants to develop their experience within embedded technology and telecommunications.

What you’ll be doing

  • Writing and executing functional, regression, system and performance tests
  • Testing software, hardware and complete communication products
  • Developing and maintaining manual and automated test cases
  • Reviewing requirements and translating them into clear test scenarios
  • Identifying, reproducing and documenting defects
  • Working with software, hardware and systems engineers to support resolutions
  • Maintaining test environments, equipment and supporting infrastructure
  • Recording test results and producing clear quality documentation
  • Contributing to improvements across the wider testing process

Requirements

  • Commercial experience within software, systems, product or integration testing
  • A good understanding of manual testing methodologies
  • Experience creating and executing test cases
  • Familiarity with defect tracking and test-management tools such as Jira, TestRail or Jama
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with different engineering teams
  • An interest in embedded products, telecommunications or mission-critical technology

Experience with any of the following would be beneficial, but isn’t essential:

  • Testing physical, embedded or hardware-integrated products
  • Test automation using Python, Java or another language
  • Telecommunications, wireless systems, TETRA or LTE
  • Protocol or RF testing
  • TCP/IP, UDP, serial or Bluetooth interfaces
  • API and backend testing
  • Postman, JMeter, Selenium or similar tools
  • Linux or Android-based products
  • ISTQB certification

Due to the nature of the products, applicants must have been resident in the UK for at least three years and be able to complete the required security checks. Occasional travel may be required, so you will also need a full driving licence, access to a car and a valid passport.

If you’re an ambitious Test Engineer looking to move beyond conventional web testing and gain experience with complex physical products and communication technology, apply now for further information.
