Job description

Most of your time will be based in Basingstoke, but sometimes the best way to fix something is to actually be there.

You’ll therefore make occasional customer site visits, including London, for technical support, deployments and project work.

This isn’t a London-based role and you won’t be expected to travel into London several times a week.

What will you actually be doing?

Honestly? Quite a lot of different things.

One day you might be troubleshooting someone’s Outlook.

The next you could be investigating a security incident, setting up a new laptop, working with Intune, looking into a network problem or helping improve a customer’s Microsoft 365 environment.

That’s what makes the job interesting.

You’ll get involved with:

  • Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Intune and device management
  • Microsoft Defender and cyber security
  • Windows and macOS
  • Laptop and device deployments
  • Networking, Wi-Fi, firewalls and connectivity
  • VPNs
  • MFA and Conditional Access
  • Phishing and compromised account investigations
  • Customer onboarding and offboarding
  • Autopilot and automated deployments
  • Proactive IT and security checks
  • Customer projects and office moves

We’re big on ownership

If a customer comes to you with a problem, they should feel like someone’s actually taken responsibility for getting it sorted.

That doesn’t mean you need to know the answer immediately.

It means you’ll investigate it, ask the right questions, speak to the customer, keep them updated and pull in other people when you need them.

Sometimes the best engineer isn’t the person who knows the answer.

It’s the person who’s determined to find it.

What we actually care about

You’ll probably enjoy this role if you:

  • Love figuring out how things work.
  • Actually enjoy troubleshooting.
  • Take ownership rather than passing problems around.
  • Don’t hide behind email when a phone call would solve something quicker.
  • Can explain technical things without making them sound technical.
  • Know when to keep digging and when to ask for help.
  • Write decent ticket notes.
  • Notice when something isn’t right and do something about it.
  • Want to keep learning new technology.
  • Care about giving customers a genuinely good experience.

Requirements

You’ll ideally already have experience working within IT support, an MSP, service desk or a similar technical environment.

You’ll need a good understanding of Windows and Microsoft 365.

Experience with some of the following would be a bonus:

  • Microsoft Intune
  • Microsoft Defender
  • Entra ID
  • Exchange Online
  • Conditional Access
  • SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Microsoft Autopilot
  • Networking and firewalls
  • macOS
  • RMM platforms
  • PSA/ticketing systems, We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything.

We’re looking for someone who’s technically curious, good with people and genuinely enjoys figuring things out.

Someone who wants variety rather than being stuck doing the same tasks every day.

Someone who takes ownership.

And someone who enjoys that little moment when the thing that wasn’t working…

finally works.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Less script reading. More problem solving.

Benefits & conditions

Salary: ÂŁ30,000 + minimum ÂŁ1,800 per year on-call bonus Paid on-call rota: minimum ÂŁ150 per week when on call Occasional customer site visits, including London

This isn’t another password-reset helpdesk job.

Yes, you’ll reset passwords occasionally. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

But you’ll also troubleshoot networks, respond to security incidents, configure Microsoft 365, deploy devices, investigate weird problems and get involved in technical projects.

We won’t expect you to know everything. We will expect you to want to find out.

If you’re technically curious, good with people and get a kick out of figuring out something that wasn’t obvious five minutes ago, we’d like to meet you.

A few things to know upfront

We’d rather be clear about the role from the start.

This is an office-based role

You’ll be based with the technical team in Basingstoke. This isn’t a hybrid or remote position.

Having the technical team together means when something unusual lands on the support desk, there’s usually someone nearby to bounce ideas off or jump in and help.

On-call pays extra

You’ll take your turn on the out-of-hours support rota.

When you’re on call, you’ll receive a minimum additional payment of £150 for the week.

Based on a minimum of 12 on-call weeks per year, that’s at least £1,800 additional annual earnings on top of your basic salary., We’d rather meet someone with solid technical foundations, curiosity and the right attitude than someone who can list every Microsoft product ever invented on their CV.

This probably isn’t the job for you if…

You want to sit quietly behind a ticketing system all day.

You’d rather pass an unfamiliar problem to somebody else.

You don’t particularly enjoy speaking to customers.

Or the occasional trip into London sounds like your idea of hell.

But if you’re the person who sees a strange IT problem and immediately thinks…

“Hang on, I want to figure this out.”

…we should probably talk.

Why you’ll like working hereVariety

You’re not restricted to one tiny corner of IT.

You’ll encounter different customers, technologies, problems and projects rather than doing the same handful of tasks every day.

Real responsibility

You’ll be trusted to investigate problems and take ownership of getting them sorted.

You won’t need to pass something on simply because it doesn’t fit neatly into a “first line” box.

Interesting technology

Microsoft 365. Cyber security. Networking. Cloud. Devices. Intune. Defender.

And inevitably something you’ve never seen before.

Real customers

You’ll actually speak to and build relationships with the businesses and people you’re supporting.

Technology is a big part of the job, but ultimately it’s about helping people.

A team around you

Nobody knows everything.

When something difficult comes along, you won’t be expected to magically know the answer. You’ll have people around you to bounce ideas off, troubleshoot with and learn from.

Paid on-call

You’ll take your turn on the on-call rota and receive a minimum of £150 additional pay for each week you’re on call.

Based on 12 weeks, that’s at least £1,800 extra per year.

You’re not stuck behind a desk every day

While the role is primarily based in Basingstoke, you’ll occasionally get out to customer sites, including London, for support, deployments and projects.

What does good look like? Own it.

Take responsibility for moving things forward.

Talk to people.

A two-minute conversation can sometimes achieve more than ten emails.

Be curious.

Don’t just fix the symptom. Try to understand why it happened.

Keep people informed.

Nobody should have to chase to find out what’s happening with their problem.

Document it.

Good ticket notes make everyone’s life easier.

Make things better.

If something keeps breaking, find a better answer than fixing it for the tenth time.

Keep learning.

You don’t need to know everything.
