Senior Software Engineer, Core Pricing

• Design, build, and evolve high-performance, real-time pricing systems that support critical lending decisions across Upstart products.
• Own complex engineering projects from technical design through delivery, balancing scalability, reliability, correctness, and speed of iteration.
• Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate modeling and business requirements into reliable software solutions.
• Identify and implement architectural improvements that increase the flexibility, maintainability, observability, and resilience of pricing services.
• Contribute to technical standards for system design, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence within the Core Pricing team.
• Support other engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing while contributing to sound technical decisions across the team.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or its equivalent, plus 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience writing production software in Python and working with Java, Kotlin, or another strongly typed programming language.
• Experience designing, building, and operating scalable APIs, distributed systems, or microservices in a cloud environment such as AWS or GCP.
• Experience owning the technical design and delivery of complex software projects from development through production.
• Experience building production systems with requirements related to scalability, latency, reliability, or correctness., * Knowledge of fintech, financial systems, financial mathematics, statistics, machine learning platforms, or decisioning systems.
• Experience working on business-critical systems that affect revenue, profitability, risk, or core product outcomes.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, continuous integration and deployment, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience partnering with data science and product teams to productionize models, decisioning logic, or experimentation capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively across engineering and non-engineering teams on technically complex initiatives.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location-with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k). United States | Remote - Anticipated Base Salary Range $166,900-$230,900 USD
