Forward Deployed Engineer

You’ll be an engineer embedded with our brokerage team. You’ll sit with reps, carrier sales, and operations, learn exactly how they work, and then build and ship the software that changes how they work. When we roll out a new automation, you own it end to end: writing the code, configuring it, training the team, watching it perform in real work, and fixing what doesn’t fit.

This role is equal parts building and deploying. Some days you’ll be extending our platform, building integrations, or creating new tools for the floor. Other days you’ll be training a team, running a pilot with a group of reps, or digging into why a workflow isn’t getting used. You’ll ship most fixes and features yourself, and work closely with our core engineering team on larger architecture changes.

What You’ll Do

• Build features, integrations, and tools on our always-on automation platform
• Help redesign core brokerage workflows, from load intake and carrier sourcing to booking, tracking, and follow-up
• Own the rollout of new automations and AI tools across the brokerage, team by team
• Spend real time on the floor watching how work gets done, then build what removes the friction
• Configure, test, and improve AI voice agents based on how they perform on real calls
• Connect our platform to the tools around it: phone systems, load boards, CRMs, TMSs, and carrier data sources
• Write SQL and scripts to investigate issues, clean data, and fix problems
• Train reps and operations staff, and write clear guides they’ll actually use
• Track adoption and results: who’s using what, how much time it saves, and where it’s falling short
• Build and maintain the playbook for how we implement new technology

• 4+ years of professional software development
• Strong experience with at least one of: PHP/Laravel, TypeScript/Node.js, or Python
• Front-end experience with React or a similar framework
• Solid SQL and relational database skills
• Experience building API integrations, webhooks, and background jobs
• Strong troubleshooting instincts across code, data, and third-party systems
• The ability to explain technical things simply and train people with patience
• Credibility with a fast-paced sales floor, and the confidence to push for adoption
• Clear written communication and strong documentation habits

Nice to Have

• Freight brokerage, logistics, or TMS experience
• Experience with AI voice agents, LLMs, or automation platforms
• Experience as a forward deployed, implementation, or solutions engineer
• Telephony or phone system experience
• Experience integrating with CRMs or other systems of record

Pay: $101,425.00 - $129,423.00 per year, * 401(k) matching

Fide Freight is a Grand Rapids freight brokerage rebuilding how a brokerage runs. We’re building an always-on automation platform that works around the clock alongside our team: AI voice agents that handle carrier calls, automated load booking and tracking, and systems that take repetitive work off people’s plates so they can focus on relationships and revenue. The platform is built and running. Now we need an engineer who works on the floor, builds what the team needs, and makes sure it works every day for every person who uses it.
