Job description

We have a small in-house development team, and you’d be the first person dedicated to how our store performs. Your job is to turn more shoppers into buyers - find where they get stuck, decide what should change, build and test it, and prove it worked. You’ll also own our tags and pixels so the data we make decisions on is accurate.

This role doesn’t require senior front-end development experience, but it does require real comfort working in code. You’ll start by writing precise change specs for our developer and grow into building more of the changes yourself - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in our WordPress/WooCommerce theme and templates, through our staging and review process.

This role is focused on performance, not aesthetics. Every design change should be backed by a hypothesis, a prediction, and a measurable result.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Conversion Optimization

  • Analyze GA4 funnels, session recordings, and heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity or similar) to find where shoppers hesitate or drop off - especially in our custom product designer, cart, and checkout
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog of conversion opportunities, each with a hypothesis, supporting evidence, and expected impact
  • Design and build changes to layout, calls-to-action, forms, product pages, and the checkout flow that lift conversion rate and average order value
  • Run A/B tests, analyze results rigorously (including sample size and statistical significance), and turn winners into permanent improvements
  • Monitor page speed and Core Web Vitals, and fix or flag regressions

Front-End Implementation

  • Build site changes in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on staging, submit them for review, and verify them after release
  • Write clear, detailed specs for changes beyond your current scope
  • Take on a growing share of the site’s day-to-day front-end work over time

Tags, Pixels & Tracking

  • Own our Google Tag Manager container - tags, triggers, variables, versioning, and documentation
  • Maintain accurate e-commerce tracking across GA4, Google Ads, Meta (Pixel and Conversions API), and our other marketing platforms
  • Reconcile platform-reported conversions and revenue against actual orders, and resolve discrepancies
  • Keep consent and privacy settings working correctly
  • Validate tracking after every site release and maintain a written tracking plan

Reporting

  • Report regularly on conversion rate, average order value, funnel drop-off, test results, and tracking health, with clear recommendations

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on conversion optimization on a live e-commerce site - you can walk us through tests you’ve run, the results, and what shipped
  • Hands-on HTML and CSS plus working JavaScript - you’ve shipped changes to a live site yourself, even if “developer” wasn’t your title
  • Strong Google Tag Manager and GA4 e-commerce experience - you’ve built and debugged tags and dataLayer events yourself
  • Experience with ad-platform conversion tracking (Meta Pixel / Conversions API, Google Ads conversions)
  • Comfortable working in WordPress / WooCommerce
  • Comfortable using AI tools in your everyday workflow - we run an internal AI platform for analytics, code review, and investigation

NICE TO HAVE

  • Git and staging-based workflows
  • Basic PHP / WooCommerce template editing
  • A/B testing platforms (VWO, Convert, Optimizely) and a solid grasp of test statistics
  • Server-side GTM and Consent Mode v2
  • Figma, for mocking up test variants
  • Looker Studio or BigQuery; multi-touch attribution tools (e.g., Northbeam)
  • Web accessibility (WCAG) awareness
  • E-commerce experience with custom or personalized products (apparel, promo, product configurators)

Benefits & conditions

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Employee discount
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off

About the company

Since 1984, Safari Sun has been decorating custom headwear, apparel, bags, and accessories for businesses, teams, and individuals - and our stitched leather patch hats have become one of the fastest-growing custom hat lines in the country. About half of our business comes through our WooCommerce storefront, safarisun.com, so every improvement to the site makes a direct, measurable difference.
