Job description
- This is NOT a sales, technical website setup or coding development role. You would get to focus exclusively on the design aspects of the project, consulting/communicating directly with your clients along the way. Every project will have an assigned project manager too that will lead the technical build/setup of the website/theme prep/apps/menus/collections, etc. So you will not be responsible for all the hats, your focus will be on design!
- You are comfortable working as part of a team, remotely.
- You are comfortable spending at least a quarter of your time on video calls with clients, our process includes calls (.5-2 hours) during the on-boarding process, website review/feedback process and as needed along the way.
- You will be able to step into your role quickly, and are used to problem-solving on your own before asking for help. However, there IS support available (that’s what’s so great about working within a team). So when new/advanced/complex needs arise on a project, sometimes you need to brainstorm, troubleshoot, or lean on experience from other team members who have been there before. So you are comfortable exploring solutions on your own, but you also know how/when to ask for help too., * Independently lead branding and web design for client projects
- Develop complete brand directions based on client intake materials, business strategy, and an initial vision call
- Create thoughtful, strategic brand identities including logos, typography, color palettes, supporting brand elements, and visual systems
- Design polished, conversion-conscious ecommerce websites
- Focus on the visual and creative direction of website projects, while collaborating with a Project Manager who oversees technical build details and implementation
- Work directly with clients throughout the creative process, including Google Meet calls, presenting work, gathering feedback, and navigating revisions
- Translate sometimes messy or subjective client feedback into strong creative solutions
- Manage multiple client projects at different stages at the same time
- Collaborate with project managers, other designers, and our developer as needed
- Create occasional Canva templates or supporting client assets using established brand systems
- Design print and supplemental brand materials as needed
- Prepare organized, production-ready design files and assets
- Participate in team meetings and creative collaboration, * Approx. how many brands and/or websites have you designed? (PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE AN EXTENSIVE ANSWER - THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL APPLICATION, JUST A PRE-SCREEN TO THEN SEND YOU THE APPLICATION)!
- How many brand/website projects have you managed at one time concurrently? (PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE AN EXTENSIVE ANSWER - THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL APPLICATION, JUST A PRE-SCREEN TO THEN SEND YOU THE APPLICATION)!
Requirements
- This is not an entry level role. Ideally, you already have direct experience (within a team/agency, or freelance with multiple projects running at once) designing brands and implenting that brand into the design of a website too. You have likely designed at least 25-50+ Brands and/or websites., * Strong Adobe Creative Suite skills, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop
- Confidence independently developing a creative direction from a client brief and conversation
- Comfortable receiving feedback and navigating revisions collaboratively
- Organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving agency environment
- Proactive and capable of making strong creative decisions without constant oversight
- Experience working professionally with clients
- Illustration experience is a major bonus. If illustration is not currently part of your professional skill set, we are also open to designers with strong foundational drawing or artistic ability who are interested in developing those skills further.
Client Communication Experience/Skills Required:
- Boundaries/scope management with clients (this will more directly land under the project managers responsibility - but it’s a team effort for sure)
- Confidence, ownership and the ability to consult and educate clients. We don’t just take orders, we advise.
- You don’t have to have all the answers (that’s not possible), but be pro-active in research/problem solving where needed when new issues arise that you haven’t dealt with.
- We don’t want to tell clients a hard no. We want to say:
- yes, we can do that but it’s out of scope, here’s a quote on that
- exactly how you envisioned it isn’t possible, but here are a couple other ways we can solve this problem
- yes we could, but here’s what we suggest instead and why
Other Tools/Bonus Skills for Role:
- Shopify Experience is highly preferred - not the ins and outs but enough to design within a Shopify theme.
- Monday.com and Google suite experience is preferred, but not required if you learn and adjust to new tech programs fast. These are the main systems and tools we use to manage our projects and communicate with each other and clients.
- Experience with other platforms (Wordpress, square and lightspeed are some of the most common we also work with) are also a bonus but Shopify experience is much more critical
Benefits & conditions
- Flexible schedule
- Paid time off
About the company
- We are a female run e-commerce brand and website agency (Shopify focused). 95% our of our clients are female business owners as well.
- We help clothing retailers, along with many other industries. Most have a brick and mortar location as well. Most have a brand and website in place, but we are helping them re-brand and overhaul. Some clients also sell their products wholesale. Some are migrating to Shopify from other platforms.
- We are 8 years old. It has been a wild adventure, and I’m so proud of the team we’ve built together (and the work we are putting out into the world).
- We take a ton of pride in the value of our services and the depths of skill that we bring to the table (as a team) for our clients.
