Application Developer III - Java & SQL

The ideal candidate will have healthcare payer experience and a strong technical background in backend development, batch processing, database programming, and API development. This role is focused on hands-on application development rather than team leadership., * Develop, maintain, enhance, and deploy enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.

• Develop and support Spring Batch applications and batch-processing solutions.
• Write, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and backend services.
• Participate in application design and technical solution development.
• Create and execute unit tests, troubleshoot defects, and improve code quality.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools to support code generation, refactoring, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Maintain technical documentation based on functional requirements.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Collaborate with team members in an Agile/Scrum environment.

• Minimum 5 years of professional, hands-on application development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java, including modern Java versions and features.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience developing and maintaining Spring Batch applications.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, subqueries, and performance tuning.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting SQL stored procedures.
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and backend services.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and application architecture.
• Experience with Git/GitHub and source control practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
• Experience with unit testing, debugging, code reviews, and application troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Healthcare payer or health insurance industry experience is required.
• Must be local to the Detroit area and able to work onsite once per week.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field required., * Do you have 5+ years of hands-on Java application development experience?
