Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, You will design, build, and maintain core application services and user-facing systems. Responsibilities span the full delivery cycle: technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. Senior engineers here are expected to make and defend architectural decisions, raise the quality bar through code review, and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and deliver well-tested, maintainable features across backend services and web applications
• Lead technical design for significant initiatives: break ambiguous requirements into sound architecture, document decisions, and drive them to completion
• Write production code with a focus toward performance, security, and operational reliability
• Conduct thorough code reviews focused on correctness, maintainability, and knowledge transfer
• Improve delivery systems: CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident response, and deployment safety
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues; participate in an on-call rotation for systems you own
• Mentor mid-level engineers through pairing, design feedback, and written technical communication
• Collaborate directly with product and business stakeholders to scope work and surface constraints early
• Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies with justified, pragmatic recommendations

• Six or more years of professional software engineering experience delivering production systems
• Expert-level proficiency in at least one mainstream language (Java, Kotlin, C#, Go, Python, or TypeScript) with the depth to reason about performance and concurrency, not just syntax
• Strong experience designing and operating service-oriented architectures or distributed systems, including REST or gRPC APIs
• Production experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including containerized workloads
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design: you can point to systems you specified and delivered
• Experience with relational databases plus familiarity with caching or messaging infrastructure
• Track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards on a team
• Clear written and verbal communication, design documents, incident writeups, and stakeholder explanations are part of the job, * Experience in regulated or high-availability environments such as fintech, healthcare, or financial services, common to the Jersey City and greater New York market
• Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or equivalent)
• Frontend proficiency with React or TypeScript for full-stack contributions
• Prior experience in a true senior or staff engineering role, as opposed to seniority by tenure
• Computer science degree or equivalent demonstrable experience

• Salary range of $130,000-$140,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

Working Arrangement

This role is based in our Jersey City office. Candidates should be located in the Jersey City, New York City, or northern New Jersey area, or willing to relocate at their own expense.
