Job description
We are seeking a Data Movement Engineer to support the modernization of core data platforms for a mission-driven financial services organization. This role will focus on production support, optimization, and enhancement of Snowflake-based data environments and ETL pipelines. The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in complex enterprise data ecosystems while contributing to meaningful, purpose-driven work. This position is hybrid and requires local presence in the New Haven, CT area., * Support and optimize Snowflake-based data pipelines, models, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Manage end-to-end data movement operations including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Resolve data issues related to integrity, latency, failures, and system performance.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, warehouse configurations, and data models for scalability.
- Support CDC (Change Data Capture), SCD Type 2, Data Vault, and dimensional modeling frameworks.
- Provide production support across Snowflake, IBM DB2, and orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP).
- Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring data issues.
- Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, and consistency checks.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
- Support data governance, including metadata management, lineage, and documentation.
- Maintain runbooks, documentation, and incident resolution procedures.
- Participate in on-call support and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior team members.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, or data engineering.
- 3+ years of advanced SQL development across platforms such as Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2.
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake (development, optimization, security, and architecture).
- Experience with cloud data platforms and modern ETL/ELT processes.
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python, Shell).
- Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP) and version control (Git).
- Experience with CI/CD and incident management tools (ServiceNow, Jira).
- Strong understanding of Data Vault, dimensional modeling, CDC, and SCD Type 2.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, production-support environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
