Job description

The Test Set Engineer II will be responsible for designing and developing test software and hardware, including adapters and cables, for automated and semi-automated test systems used to test Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and Shop Replaceable Units (SRUs). The role involves Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 testing, troubleshooting, test execution and analysis, and documenting and releasing engineering processes and hardware drawings through Teamcenter.

The engineer will join a collaborative team of approximately 10 test engineers and receive mentorship from an experienced team member. The first 90 days will focus on training and supporting existing production test sets, including troubleshooting and repairs. After approximately three months, the candidate will transition to more independent project work.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and support test adapters, cables, and other test hardware.
  • Execute and analyze tests and logs for In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) products, systems, and components.
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues and implement solutions to improve test performance and fault detection.
  • Develop and maintain test automation frameworks and scripts.
  • Document and release engineering processes, drawings, and changes through Teamcenter.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and meet project goals.
  • Support production, repair facilities, contract manufacturers, and airline repair stations.
  • Manage technical support requests through JIRA, email, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Support test hardware obsolescence by identifying and recommending alternatives.
  • Participate in design reviews, lead technical discussions, and communicate solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with project scope, cost estimates, procurement activities, and efforts to reduce sustaining and repair costs.
  • Travel domestically or internationally as needed to provide technical support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 6 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with software programming and development environments, including Windows 7/10/11, Linux, NI LabVIEW/TestStand, and Visual Studio.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as Ethernet, USB, RS-232, RS-422, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and networking protocols.
  • Working knowledge of serial and Ethernet interfaces, IP/MAC addressing, VLANs, and broadcast/multicast networking.
  • Experience using test instruments such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, audio analyzers, signal/function generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to follow test procedures, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and integrity.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with SAP and JIRA.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages, such as Python or Android.
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
  • Familiarity with ARINC standards applicable to In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) or airborne satellite communication systems.
  • Knowledge of digital and RF testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with audio and video analysis, including NTSC television standards.
