Background/Need: The Group develops human-centered technologies to overcome operational challenges and to enhance human capability in domains of interest to national security. Our research programs focus on innovative and objective solutions in the areas of integrated wearable systems, human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, and medical technologies. Our group is highly interdisciplinary and includes scientific experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, and physics. Our core technical competencies include system-level modeling and gap analysis, advanced sensing and signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, computational modeling, hardware and software prototyping, model-based systems engineering, and human data collection in laboratory and field environments.

Other information relevant to the job requirement?

The Group develops technologies to enhance military medical capabilities in operational and resource-constrained environments. Our research programs focus on two core areas: medical autonomy and medical imaging. Our medical autonomy efforts develop intelligent, field-deployable technologies that augment medical providers, expand access to advanced care, and enable providers with varying levels of training to perform complex medical tasks. Our medical imaging research combines artificial intelligence with advanced sensing and novel imaging systems to improve the speed, accuracy, and availability of diagnostic information. Much of our most impactful work integrates these areas, combining intelligent automation and advanced imaging to provide military medical personnel with new capabilities to support military medical providers and personnel in the field and at the point of care.

The Group is seeking a versatile Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and test novel medical technologies for national security applications. The ideal candidate has a broad software engineering background and works effectively in small, multidisciplinary teams to translate new ideas into functional prototypes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing AI- and machine-learning-enabled applications
  • Building custom Android smartphone applications
  • Enhancing Windows-based software
  • Integrating sensors and prototype hardware
  • Designing software architectures for new research efforts
  • Successful candidates are comfortable working across the software stack, learning new technologies -quickly, and solving open-ended technical problems in an R&D environment.

Requirements

  • Android development
  • Windows Applications (C++ app development)
  • Mobile user interface design principles
  • Mobile user analytics
  • JSON and XML data formats
  • Microcontroller (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry PI)
  • AWS Cloud Computing
  • On-device ML/LLM deployment experience
  • Implementing machine learning models and knowledge of ML training
  • Experience building on-device native binaries for ML/LLM deployments

Nice To Have:

  • Real-time audio, video, and image processing
  • Knowledge of C, C++, C#, F#, Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python, Swift
  • Browser-based user interface development
  • Healthcare, biomedical knowledge
  • Agile development process
  • iOS development
  • Scientific computing and data analysis
  • Linux environments and experience with legacy systems
  • Web Services, JavaScript,
  • TypeScript SOAP/REST interfaces
  • Relational Databases (e.g., SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
