Web Developer

Provides web development for select Extension Service websites, consisting primarily of a comprehensive range of websites built in content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress, and various other web applications.

For salary grade UC, these positions are “Unclassified” and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department., 1. Support the mission of the Extension Service through the design, development, and maintenance of Extension Service’s multitude of websites.

1. Creates and maintains appropriate modules and themes for both Drupal and WordPress content management systems.
2. Develops online applications for use by Extension clientele and employees through PHP, Twig, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and other programming languages and tools.
3. Edits any images, logos, and other files for web delivery.
4. Maintains a high level of knowledge and skills in current web publishing techniques, and researches new and emerging technologies and standards for web design, web applications, and online platforms.
5. Ensures website design and content is usable by all devices, and that all such sites follow proper standards including but not limited to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
6. Provides as-needed support, documentation, and training to Extension personnel regarding updating and maintaining web-based content.
7. Interacts with colleagues from other Extension services throughout the country when appropriate for the sharing of online Extension information relevant to multi-state audiences.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Web Programming, Content Management Systems (CMS), Wordpress, Internet Application, Web Programming, Drupal, Maintenance Services, PHP Scripting Language (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor), HTML (HyperText Markup Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), Education: Bachelor’’s degree in a related field.

Experience: One (1) year related experience in maintaining and developing web-related applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’’s degree in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Fluent with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and Twig.
• Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
• Knowledge and understanding of database design and implementation.
• Programming skills in PHP or other web programming languages.
• Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into responsive, mobile-first websites.
• Knowledge of React, Angular, Svelte, and other component-based frameworks a plus.
• Ability to use Adobe Creative Cloud software for minor image manipulation.
• Knowledge of dependency managers like Composer, NPM, etc.
• Skills in the maintenance, installation, and upkeep of Drupal and WordPress installations.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• No unusual physical requirements. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time. Nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
• Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
