IBM Systems Engineer

Capstone IT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with expertise in IBM i (AS/400) environments to support, optimize, and maintain critical enterprise infrastructure. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for ensuring platform stability, performance, security, and scalability while supporting ongoing business operations.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity designed to accelerate onboarding. Candidates must be open to relocating to the client location within 12 months of conversion to a full-time employee. Relocation assistance is available.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, support, and optimize IBM i (AS/400) infrastructure and IBM Power Systems environments
• Analyze business and technical requirements and implement infrastructure solutions that improve performance, reliability, and security
• Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability while proactively identifying and resolving issues
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure problems and serve as a senior escalation point for technical support
• Support system upgrades, maintenance, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives
• Coordinate with vendors and third-party support providers to resolve platform-related issues
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams
• Participate in on-call support and mentor junior team members as needed

Do you have experience in Systems & applications support?, * Strong hands-on experience administering IBM i (AS/400) environments

• Experience supporting IBM Power Systems infrastructure
• Proven expertise in troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrades, and system maintenance
• Experience with change management, disaster recovery, and operational support processes
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in complex environments
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience, * Experience with Mimix high availability and disaster recovery solutions
• Experience with IBM PowerHA, backup/recovery, and business continuity planning
• Knowledge of IBM i security administration and auditing
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP environments
• Scripting, automation, or infrastructure modernization experience

Pay: $60.00 - $67.00 per hour, * 401(k)
