Job description

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM i (AS/400) systems.

  • Perform IBM i operating system upgrades, PTF management, and system maintenance.

  • Monitor and optimize system performance, storage utilization, and capacity.

  • Configure and manage user profiles, security policies, and access controls.

  • Support backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery initiatives.

  • Manage job queues, subsystems, output queues, and workload performance.

  • Troubleshoot operating system, hardware, and application-related issues.

  • Support application development and deployment teams.

  • Implement automation and operational best practices.

  • Maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures.

  • Participate in production support and on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting IBM i / AS/400 environments.

  • Strong experience with:

o IBM i (i5/OS, OS/400)

o Power Systems

o CL Programming (CLP)

o Control Language Commands

o System Administration

  • Experience with:

o PTF Management

o System Save/Restore Procedures

o Backup and Recovery

o BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services)

o Job Scheduling

o Performance Monitoring

  • Strong knowledge of:

o Libraries

o Objects

o Subsystems, * Experience with:

o IBM Power10, Power9, or Power8 systems

o PowerHA

o MIMIX

o Quick-EDD

o Robot Scheduler

o Robot Console

o IBM Navigator for i

  • Experience administering:

o Db2 for i

o Integrated File System (IFS)

o TCP/IP Networking

o FTP/SFTP

o SSL/TLS Security

  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies:

o PowerVM

o VIOS

o Logical Partitions (LPARs)

Performance & Infrastructure Experience

  • System performance tuning

  • Storage optimization

  • Job scheduling and workload management

  • Capacity planning

  • High availability configuration

  • Disaster recovery testing

  • Security auditing and compliance

  • Hardware and operating system upgrades

Preferred Software Experience

  • IBM i 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, or later

  • IBM Navigator for i

  • PowerVM, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Desired Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across infrastructure, application, database, network, and security teams.

  • Experience supporting banking, manufacturing, insurance, retail, logistics, or healthcare organizations is highly desirable.
