Job description
We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Mechanical Diesel Technology to support the design, development, and academic review of a new diploma-level diesel technology program. The SME will play a critical role in ensuring curriculum quality, hands-on lab integration, regulatory compliance, and alignment with diesel industry standards for delivery in on-ground and hybrid formats, with a strong focus on workforce readiness., * Design and develop program curriculum, course outlines, and syllabi for Mechanical Diesel Technology, integrating classroom theory with lab and hands-on training
- Cover heavy equipment, truck systems (engines, drivetrain, brakes, electrical, and HVAC), diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
- Develop lab activities and task sheets aligned to medium- and heavy-duty truck industry tasks
- Review and update existing program documentation to ensure academic rigor and industry relevance
- Align curriculum with Puerto Rico and Florida regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and program accreditation standards
- Ensure alignment with the ASE Education Foundation Medium/Heavy Truck program accreditation standards and diesel industry expectations
- Integrate emerging diesel technologies, electronic engine controls, emissions/aftertreatment systems, and high-voltage/hybrid systems
- Support preparation for ASE certifications in the Medium-Heavy Truck (T-series) area (entry-level and professional)
- Support preparation of accreditation documentation, self-study reports, program outcomes assessment, and workforce alignment
- Collaborate with curriculum specialists, instructional designers, and academic leadership, Expected Deliverables:
- Program framework and curriculum recommendations
- Course sequencing review
- Course descriptions and learning outcomes validation
- Industry competency mapping
- Regulatory and accreditation guidance
- Review of program documentation and submission materials
- Participation in meetings with institutional leadership and curriculum teams

Requirements
Do you have experience in Educational compliance and regulation understanding?, Do you have a Associate’s degree?, * ASE certification(s) in Medium-Heavy Truck (T-series) preferred; ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician a plus
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diesel Technology or a related field preferred (equivalent industry experience considered)
- Minimum 5+ years of diesel industry and/or academic experience
- Prior experience in curriculum development, program review, or accreditation processes preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, electrical/electronic systems, and diagnostics
- Familiarity with competency-based education models
Regulatory & Accreditation Knowledge (Required):
- Working knowledge of ASE Education Foundation Medium/Heavy Truck accreditation standards, the recognized benchmark for diesel and truck training programs in the U.S.
- Understanding that Puerto Rico requires diesel technicians to be licensed under Act 40 of 1972 (as amended) through the Junta Examinadora de Técnicos y Mecánicos Automotrices de Puerto Rico, which issues a specific Diesel license category, while Florida does not require state licensure for diesel technicians
- Awareness that instructors teaching diesel technology in Puerto Rico must hold the applicable Puerto Rico technician license; programs should also emphasize ASE Medium-Heavy Truck certification pathways and workforce credentials
- Knowledge of industry task lists, tools and equipment requirements, and preparation for ASE Medium-Heavy Truck certification exams
Preferred Skills:
- Experience designing diploma-level diesel technology programs
- Knowledge of employer partnerships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning models
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
