Senior Systems Engineer - Microsoft Infrastructure & Messaging

This position supports a mission-critical federal program focused on enterprise IT portfolio rationalization, modernization, and governance within a federal agency’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Our team discovers, documents, and rationalizes a large and complex enterprise IT estate - spanning networks, infrastructure, applications, data, and identity - to establish an authoritative baseline and chart a clear path toward a consolidated, well-governed target state. We seek professionals who are not only technically proficient but also adaptable, analytical, and dedicated to excellence, ensuring that we continue to provide our clients with the best expertise available., The Senior Systems Engineer - Microsoft Infrastructure & Messaging is a hands-on specialist responsible for discovering, documenting, and rationalizing the Microsoft server, messaging, and core network services that carry the bulk of day-to-day operations. This role works fluently across Windows Server (2016-2022) and Microsoft Exchange in both virtualized and on-premises environments, with deep DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (DDI) expertise, including Infoblox. The Senior Systems Engineer is solution-oriented - not only documenting how the environment is built today, but recommending how to structure it for the target state - and covers the on-premises and virtualized footprint, partnering with the Cloud Engineer, who covers the public-cloud estate., This is a full-time, onsite role based in Washington, D.C., requiring availability during normal business hours, with occasional night and weekend work as needed based on program demands. The Senior Systems Engineer works closely with executive leadership and cross-functional engineering teams across network, cloud, identity, security, and enterprise architecture, and supports governance processes and milestone reviews throughout the program., * Discover and inventory the Windows Server estate, Microsoft Exchange messaging environment, and host configuration across virtual and physical systems

• Map DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (Infoblox) and the Active Directory trust relationships that depend on them
• Reconcile server and service findings against the configuration management inventory; flag configuration drift, duplication, and at-risk systems
• Recommend how to build and structure components and trust relationships toward the target state
• Assess patching, lifecycle, resilience, and secure configuration of core infrastructure
• Partner with network, cloud, identity, security, and enterprise architecture teams so the infrastructure picture supports consolidation and modernization
• Produce professional-grade infrastructure documentation, diagrams, and configuration baselines
• Support governance processes, technical reviews, and milestone gates, and brief findings to leadership and federal stakeholders
• Identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement in partnership with the broader team

Do you have experience in Windows?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (or an equivalent senior Windows Server certification) required
• One or more of the following strongly preferred: Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate (MS-203); VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV); an Infoblox DDI certification; CompTIA Security+; ITIL 4 Foundation, * At least 10 years of progressive systems engineering experience centered on Microsoft server and messaging infrastructure
• Deep, hands-on expertise with Windows Server (2016-2022) and Microsoft Exchange across virtualized and on-premises environments
• Demonstrated expertise with DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (DDI), including Infoblox, and Active Directory trust relationships
• Experience discovering, documenting, and rationalizing core infrastructure in large, complex enterprise environments; federal experience preferred

Technical Expertise

• Windows Server (2016-2022): roles, services, administration, and hardening
• Active Directory: forests, domains, cross-forest trusts, and Group Policy
• Microsoft Exchange messaging (on-premises and hybrid)
• DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (DDI), including Infoblox
• Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V)
• Server discovery, inventory, patching, lifecycle, and resilience
• Working knowledge of federal security frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53) and secure configuration baselines (e.g., CIS Benchmarks)

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
