Job description

The Overnight Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and supporting overnight transportation operations to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of freight, equipment, and drivers. This role serves as a central point of communication between drivers, warehouse personnel, customers, and management during overnight hours. More about this position:

  • Coordinate and dispatch drivers, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Monitor overnight routes and driver activity to ensure on-time performance, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Primary point of contact for drivers during overnight operations.
  • Assist in route coverage driven by time off, call-outs, no call-no show situations, or unexpected operational needs.
  • Track deliveries, pickups, and driver progress using dispatch systems, GPS tools, phone communication, etc.
  • Ensure all drivers have proper paperwork, route information, delivery documentation, and special instructions before departing the dock each night.
  • Review and verify shipping paperwork, load information, and dispatch records.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, trip records, incident reports, and other required operational documentation.
  • Coordinate repairs, breakdown support, service calls, or movement of equipment to service centers, as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the transportation team, warehouse team, and management to support efficient nightly operations and a smooth transition to daytime operations.
  • Represent the company professionally in all communications with drivers, customers, vendors, and internal teams.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Two-way radios for driver communication?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of dispatch, transportation, logistics, or related operational experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in overnight operations, route coordination, or transportation support preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and possess the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Working knowledge of transportation operations, driver scheduling, delivery coordination, and customer service best practices.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Proficient with dispatch software, GPS systems, email, Microsoft Office, and basic data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a desk or computer for long durations.
  • Ability to use a computer, phone, radio, and other office or dispatch equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to tolerate a range of temperatures and environmental conditions while working in an office, dock, or warehouse-adjacent environment, as needed.
