Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable professional to join our team as a Health Information Specialist. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of client health records across the organization.
Working under the direction of the HIM Supervisor, the Health Information Specialist supports the management of electronic and physical health records by reviewing documentation, processing records requests, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards, and assisting staff with health information procedures and documentation requirements. - Review newly created client records to ensure required documentation and record elements are complete and compliant.
- Scan and process health information into electronic health record systems in a timely and accurate manner.
- Identify and correct documentation or scanning errors within health records and EHR systems.
- Assist with compiling and preparing records for releases of information, subpoenas, audits, and other authorized requests.
- Research, retrieve, and organize medical records from internal and external sources as needed.
- Support coordination of care by assisting providers with obtaining necessary documentation from outside organizations.
Compliance and Documentation Support
- Assist with compliance reviews, licensing audits, and payer documentation requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 standards.
- Provide consultation and guidance to staff regarding documentation requirements and record procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and support overall agency compliance efforts.
- Participate in special projects related to records management, quality improvement, and data integrity.
Administrative and Team Support
- Communicate effectively with staff, providers, clients, and external partners regarding records and information requests.
- Support departmental workflows and day-to-day operational tasks.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and strong customer service skills.
- Maintain current knowledge of agency policies, documentation standards, and electronic records systems.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technical Proficiency?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Experience working with electronic records systems, data entry, or healthcare documentation processes.
- Working knowledge of confidentiality standards, including HIPAA regulations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office technology.
Preferred Qualifications
Competitive candidates may also possess:
- HIM pre-professional certification or related coursework/training.
- Experience working in behavioral health, healthcare, or community services settings.
- Familiarity with DBHDS, DMAS, Medicaid, HIPAA, and behavioral health documentation standards.
- Experience working within an electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting compliance reviews, audits, or records management processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.

- Hourly range from $17.15-$20.09.
