Job description

Position Summary: Responsible for completing BI development tasks of low to medium complexity under supervision as well as documentation of BI requirements, as well as completing testing of BI reports or data after manipulation.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform business analysis to gather BI report requirements

  • Translate business needs into business intelligence solutions

  • Integrate data and reports with dynamic reporting engines such as Tableau and Power BI

  • Ensure data design is compliant with internal and external regulations and standards

  • Develop mock-ups and wireframes to outline the look and feel of reports prior to development

  • Create attractive, data rich, and intuitive static reports, dynamic reports, and dashboards

  • Provide support, as required, to ensure the availability and performance of BI environments for both internal and external users

  • Collaborate with project managers, business systems analysts, UX designers, and application developers to deliver high-quality deliverables

  • Train and test for industry certifications

  • Provide estimates for development tasks

  • Identify, set, monitor, and achieve individual goals

  • Leverage mentorship and peer relationships to increase proficiency in development

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT’s Motor Vehicle screening

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Able to pass Background Check

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 0-2 years of experience developing software systems, business analysis or related experience

  • Experience using data programming languages such as SQL or Python

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related fields preferred

  • Experience developing reports and business intelligence dashboards in Power BI or Tableau

  • Experience working in a hybrid agile methodology

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, project managers and other team members

Benefits & conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment at the Newport News Shipyard. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
