About This Role

Software engineers apply the principles of software engineering and the knowledge of programming languages to design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions.

At Covered, there is no distinction between Full Stack, Front End, Back End, or Test Engineers. All Software Engineers have a different blend of capabilities and these capabilities can evolve over time.

The Software Engineer 3 role is expected to guide and mentor lesser experienced software engineers on the team, take direction and mentorship from more experienced software engineers on the team, and collaborate across team boundaries. This role implements solutions with an understanding of scalability and ease of maintenance. This role can head up mid to high complexity solution design and implementation. This role troubleshoots software and systems issues, providing satisfactory resolution in an expeditious manner. This role is sometimes the most senior engineer on the team., * Design, develop, test, deliver, and maintain software solutions in collaboration with Aligned Team members

  • Contribute to prioritizing, and progressively elaborating on the Aligned Team’s work
  • Contribute to team discussions and decisions; share your perspective, listen actively
  • Be a champion for high-quality implementations
  • Mentor lesser experienced software engineers
  • Stay up to date on languages, tools, and frameworks utilized at Covered
  • Proactively support continuous improvement of the Aligned Team guided by The Behaviors
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing

Requirements

Do you have experience in Test-driven development?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent on-the-job experience

  • 8+ years’ experience as a technical hands-on contributing member of a software development team
  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver high quality code
  • Can teach others refactoring, software design patterns, code smells
  • Demonstrated extensive ability to lead with tests - TDD, BDD, Specification by Example
  • Experience with pairing and teaming (mobbing)
  • Can teach good pairing and teaming
  • Strong communication skills, and can clearly articulate and explain technical concepts and design decisions to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Can lead high complexity technical conversations within the team
  • Can lead non-technical conversations with stakeholders
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery principles, pipelines, and services (a plus)
  • Experience mentoring other software engineers
  • Strong problem solving & critical thinking ability
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Experience with:
  • Nodejs
  • React
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • AWS is a plus (not required), Must be able to be perform responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Work Environment: Denver, CO HQ or Remote
  • Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to work on the computer & use virtual communication tools
  • Effective listening & communication skills required
  • Proficient in English speaking & writing
  • Some travel may be required
