GIS Analyst

Under supervision of the Associate Director of Engineering, the GIS Analyst will be the administrator of Columbus Utilities’ GIS mapping system and computerized maintenance management system., * Performs administration duties for Columbus Utilities’ GIS mapping system using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro. This includes managing users, updating maps and attribute data to be as current as possible, backing up GIS data, and reviewing map updates by others in the Engineering Department.

• Develops GIS solutions to assist field staff in the Engineering Department and other departments to perform their duties more efficiently.
• Stays up to date on updates to ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro and new esri solutions.
• Performs administration duties for Columbus Utilities’ computerized maintenance management system using Cityworks. This includes managing users, training users, assisting supervisors with implementing recurring work orders, modifying existing and/or creating new work order templates and inspection forms. Assist users in creating dashboards and reports to track system maintenance and repairs.
• Stays up to date on updates to Cityworks and new Cityworks solutions.
• Coordinates with other City departments using ArcGIS Online and Cityworks.
• Manages implementation of new sewer televising software and its integration with Cityworks.
• Takes all reasonable steps to maintain a safe work environment consistent with OSHA Performs related duties as assigned.
• The GIS Analyst reports to the Associate Director of Engineering but must coordinate activities and personnel with all aspects of the CCU and many other agencies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical activity expected is climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions; tasks require visual perception and discrimination. This position requires working in person at various CCU locations Monday through Friday with emergency response on occasion on the weekend.

Vision sufficient for Driver’s License, creation and maintenance of documents and using equipment.

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Utility mapping analysis?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Use GIS technology to analyze and describe variables in a geographic location. Extracts data, performs analyses, and presents conclusions and recommendations. Works under general supervision. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience., * Bachelor’s degree in GIS, data science, environmental science, or other applicable field is preferred

• Applicants with an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are preferred.
• Must have Distribution and Collection System Operational knowledge, or ability to learn.
• Must have experience with sewer CCTV operation and software.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed maps and plan sheets.
• Experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and/or esri Field Maps, or ability and willingness to learn.
• Experience with Cityworks software, or ability and willingness to learn.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Job Location: The minimum working conditions for this position requires the employee to work both inside and outside, be exposed to temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour, be exposed to temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour, be exposed to noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions in which one or more of the following symptoms affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Ability to work either independently or as a member of a team.

Ability to understand hazardous communication and work within job safety requirements, including proper handling of hazardous chemicals in potentially dangerous situations.

Safety Equipment: The safety equipment required includes, but is not limited to, a hard hat, safety vest, respirator, confined space safety harness, safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, depending on the task.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License and maintain it at all times or have the ability to. Must have good driving record, sufficient to be covered by city insurance as a driver while on duty.

RESIDENCY:

• Must reside in Bartholomew County or adjoining county within six (6) months of employment.
