Job description

The Reliability Engineer - Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D) serves as the fleet-wide technical authority for rotating equipment health across advanced-class gas turbines, steam turbines, and associated power generation assets. This position combines engineering expertise, condition monitoring technologies, time-series data analysis, and AI-enabled diagnostics to identify early signs of equipment degradation, assess operational risk, and provide actionable reliability recommendations to customers.

The role supports fleet reliability initiatives through technical root cause analysis, validation of predictive diagnostic models, and interpretation of complex operational data. The Reliability Engineer translates machine intelligence into practical maintenance and operational guidance that improves asset performance, availability, and reliability.

This position is based at Doosan Turbomachinery Services (DTS) headquarters in La Porte, Texas, with occasional travel and remote support responsibilities as required.

Key ResponsibilitiesMonitoring & Diagnostics

  • Monitor and assess fleet-wide gas turbine, steam turbine, and rotating equipment health utilizing condition monitoring systems, time-series operational data, and AI-enabled analytics platforms.
  • Identify early indicators of degradation, abnormal operating conditions, and emerging failure modes.
  • Interpret and validate AI-generated alerts, distinguishing true reliability risks from normal operational variation.
  • Analyze machine performance trends to support proactive maintenance and risk mitigation strategies.

Reliability Engineering

  • Evaluate equipment condition using vibration analysis, combustion dynamics, thermal performance data, electrical signals, and other diagnostic inputs.
  • Assess reliability impacts related to:
  • Rotor dynamics
  • Bearing health
  • Seal performance
  • Combustion instability
  • Thermal stress
  • Auxiliary system interactions
  • Mechanical degradation mechanisms
  • Develop risk-based recommendations to improve equipment reliability and operational performance.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Lead and support structured root cause investigations for trips, forced outages, reliability events, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Document findings, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute technical insights to fleet knowledge management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support outage and field teams during troubleshooting activities and critical equipment events.

Customer Support & Technical Advisory

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers regarding equipment condition and reliability exposure.
  • Provide written and verbal technical assessments summarizing:
  • Equipment health
  • Risk levels
  • Monitoring recommendations
  • Corrective action strategies
  • Present complex technical findings in a clear and understandable manner to both technical and commercial stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Analytics Development

  • Support enhancement of Monitoring & Diagnostics capabilities through:
  • Diagnostic playbook development
  • Alarm optimization
  • Predictive analytics refinement
  • Model validation and feedback
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve diagnostic algorithms and reliability monitoring tools.
  • Incorporate confirmed field findings into machine-learning and AI-based diagnostic systems.

Specific Technical Duties

  • Analyze vibration signatures and machinery dynamic behavior.
  • Evaluate combustion dynamics and combustion stability indicators.
  • Review temperature spreads, thermal performance trends, and operating parameter deviations.
  • Assess bearing condition, lubrication performance, and mechanical integrity indicators.
  • Monitor auxiliary systems and identify interactions affecting equipment reliability.
  • Support rapid-response diagnostics during forced outages, trips, and emergent operating events.
  • Validate and classify machine-generated alerts and predictive maintenance recommendations.
