Job description

We’re building the operating system for physical safety - software that helps schools, hospitals, hotels, workplaces, and public venues understand what’s happening across their spaces, coordinate action, and respond when every second matters.

As a Frontend Engineer, you’ll own large parts of the customer experience from concept to production. You’ll work across our web and mobile applications, building interfaces that turn complex systems into products that feel intuitive, reliable, and fast under pressure.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your time moving buttons a few pixels. You’ll help define how operators understand emergencies, navigate buildings, coordinate teams, and make decisions in critical moments. You’ll work closely with design, product, hardware, and backend engineering to bring entirely new product experiences to life.

This is a role with significant ownership and influence over both our product and engineering culture.

You’ll:

  • Build and own major parts of Firefly’s web and mobile experiences from architecture through implementation
  • Create interfaces that make complex operational workflows feel simple and intuitive
  • Work closely with design to turn ambitious concepts into polished, production-quality products
  • Collaborate with backend, infrastructure, ML, and hardware teams to bring new capabilities to customers
  • Build real-time experiences spanning maps, video, alerts, incidents, communications, and automation workflows
  • Shape frontend architecture, component systems, performance standards, and engineering practices
  • Help establish the quality bar and development culture that future engineers will inherit
  • Talk directly with customers and bring field feedback into product decisions

Requirements

Do you have experience in Customer communication?, * 2+ years of experience building modern web applications and user-facing products

  • Strong experience with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend development patterns
  • A track record of shipping products with exceptional attention to detail, performance, and usability
  • Experience owning large frontend systems rather than isolated features
  • Strong product intuition and the ability to make thoughtful tradeoffs independently
  • Experience working closely with designers and sweating the details of implementation
  • Familiarity with real-time systems, data visualisation, mapping, or operational software is a plus
  • Experience with React Native or mobile application development is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working directly with customers when needed

Benefits & conditions

The salary range for this full-time position is $130,000 - $225,000 plus equity and benefits. Actual compensation will depend on factors including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

About the company

Firefly is building the defining physical AI company of the next decade, starting with safety.

We believe safety is the most important problem facing America today. Every school, hospital, hotel, workplace, and public venue relies on a patchwork of disconnected systems to understand and protect the people inside them. Most were built decades ago, rarely work together, and leave organizations operating without a real-time understanding of what’s happening across their spaces.

Firefly is replacing that stack with a single AI-native platform that helps organizations understand their environment, coordinate action, and respond when every second counts. We combine intelligent software with beautifully designed hardware to bring consumer-grade experiences to one of the world’s largest and most important industries.

In less than two years, Firefly has grown from an idea to protecting everything from boutique hotels to 30,000-student school systems, raising more than $27 million from leading investors along the way. Our team includes leaders from Apple and Verkada who care deeply about craft, speed, and building technology that matters in the real world.

Safety is where the need is most urgent, but the opportunity is much larger. Every physical space generates signals. Every organization needs to understand what is happening, determine what matters, and coordinate the right response. We believe the next generation of AI will move beyond screens and into the real world, becoming the system of intelligence that helps organizations operate and protect the spaces they are responsible for.
