Job description

Dots Energy is seeking a Reality Capture & Spatial Modeling Associate to help develop digital models of commercial, industrial, community, and energy infrastructure assets.

The successful candidate will process drone imagery, LiDAR scans, and Gaussian Splat datasets into engineering-ready deliverables including 2D CAD drawings, point clouds, and 3D spatial models.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys learning new software, working with drones, LiDAR, and 3D models, and figuring out how to turn raw data into useful real-world deliverables. Many of the tools and workflows are still emerging, so curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Process drone imagery and LiDAR datasets
  • Create point clouds, Gaussian Splat models, and 3D spatial models
  • Generate 2D CAD drawings and site layouts
  • Organize and manage reality capture datasets
  • Develop standardized workflows and documentation
  • Support quality assurance and model review

What You’ll Be Modeling

Projects may include:

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Community resilience hubs
  • Schools and educational facilities
  • Municipal and public buildings
  • Commercial and industrial facilities
  • Other critical infrastructure assets

This work will help create standardized digital representations of infrastructure that support engineering, operations, planning, and future technology applications.

Project Deliverables

By the conclusion of the engagement, you will help deliver:

  • 16 facilities modeled to a defined quality standard
  • Standardized 2D CAD deliverables
  • Registered point cloud datasets
  • Gaussian Splat models
  • 3D spatial models
  • A documented Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covering capture, processing, quality control, and file management

Requirements

Do you have experience in Quality control?, Experience with one or more of the following is helpful but not required:

  • CAD software
  • GIS software
  • Drone imagery processing
  • LiDAR processing
  • Photogrammetry
  • 3D modeling software
  • Reality capture workflows

The most important qualifications are curiosity, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to learn new software independently., Dots Energy develops and deploys energy infrastructure solutions that improve resilience, reliability, and operational performance across commercial, industrial, community, and utility-scale systems.
