Job description

The primary responsibilities of an Data and Production Management Apprentice is to master a basic understanding of the methodology Physician Life Care Planning has adopted in all of our physician authored expert reports. An Apprentice would also be expected to collect cost data by various means of research (telephonic and internet-based) that would be incorporated into all expert reports. Additionally, they would be expected to begin to master basic medical coding as it pertains to our expert reports. The ultimate goal for the Apprentice role is to ensure our ability to deliver the highest quality reports., * Develop and maintain proficiency with the use of the Company’s proprietary Workflow and Information Management System

  • Understanding medical procedures, and their differences
  • Assigning appropriate medical codes to various types of medical services and procedures
  • Making outbound telephonic calls to location-specific vendors in order to obtain cost data needed
  • Managing and auditing data within our propriety database
  • Utilizing data in arithmetic calculations
  • Managing clear communication between internal staff and physician experts on assigned cases
  • Detail statuses of cases being worked in order to inform management of which stage the case is in
  • Performing quality control and proofreading medical-legal documents completed by department peers
  • Work independently managing a case load of 7-10 cases while working in a departmental team setting working toward the same goal
  • Learn field-specific methodological processes and apply those concepts in each report worked on under the direction of a physician expert
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Requirements

Do you have experience in Word embeddings?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * 1+ years of professional experience working in a medical office, doctor’s office, or a medically related field OR; Bachelor’s degree with a major of Science in Biology, Anatomy, and/or Chemistry OR;

  • Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, MS-DRG medical codes.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and surgical procedures.

  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Strong grammatical skills .
  • Maintains HIPAA patient confidentiality standards for medical information.
  • Must be able to contribute to building a positive team spirit; put the success of team above own interests; support everyone’s efforts to succeed.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid problem-solving skills to include:
  • Must be able to prioritize and balance multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Strong memory recall abilities allowing for the individual to effectively draw from past experiences to resolve future issues.
  • Ability to apply methodological processes in everyday work
  • Ability to obtain a CBCS certification within the first year of employment (if hired without an active CBCS certification).
  • Typing 40+ wpm.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Anatomy, and/or Chemistry.
  • Experience in a discipline requiring familiarity with medical terminology OR;
  • Proficient knowledge in medical coding/billing, highly preferred, OR;
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge in human anatomy, physiology, major disease processes, pharmacology, and the metric system for purposes of: researching intricate details on Future Medical Requirements and identification of inadequate Diagnostic Conditions, etc.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical codes and descriptions, including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9/10 CM, MS-DRG.
