Job description

  • Design, build, and contribute to open-source healthcare software (Node.js, Java, or Python backend; React, Next.js, or similar frontend)
  • Maintain and enhance Medblocks open source repositories: write clean, reliable code and perform code reviews
  • Lead client projects, participate in requirement gathering, technical design discussions, and ensure successful architecture and implementation
  • Translate business and clinical workflows into robust, modular system designs using open standards such as FHIR and openEHR
  • Develop high-quality, engaging educational content, tutorials, and sample apps
  • Write clear, thoughtful technical articles and documentation for a wide audience
  • Mentor developers and support the community via forums, workshops, webinars, and code walkthroughs
  • Curate and continually improve the Medblocks learning portal and course material
  • Champion best practices for coding, technical communication, and developer experience
  • Collaborate closely with product and education teams to identify developer needs and learning opportunities
  • Represent Medblocks at events and advocate for our technology stack through talks or demos

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience building and shipping modern web applications (Node.js, Java, or Python backend; React/Next.js or similar frontend frameworks)
  • Hands-on experience leading technical projects, gathering requirements, and designing scalable architectures
  • Strong software fundamentals: database design, API implementation, and microservice architecture
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, or developer training roles, must have delivered lessons, evaluated learners, or built curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to write about or explain technical concepts (blog, portfolio, videos, conference talks, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills: fluent spoken and written English; strong ability to simplify complex topics
  • Keen eye for quality content, user experience, and educational best practices
  • Collaborative, growth-oriented mindset with a passion for open source and education

Nice to Have

  • Prior contributions to open source projects
  • Familiarity with cloud deployments (Docker, Firebase, etc.) and database design (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis)
  • Experience managing client relationships and cross-functional teams in a startup environment

Benefits & conditions

  • Complete autonomy to design and build our AI assistant from the ground up
  • Direct collaboration with founders on technical strategy
  • Transparent company financials and metrics
  • Regular opportunities to speak at conferences and write technical content about AI in healthcare
  • Travel opportunities for team meet-ups and conferences
  • Liberal leave policy with no micromanagement
  • The chance to build AI-powered healthcare tools from first principles

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,500.00 per year

About the company

Medblocks is building a developer-focused “stack for healthcare” that makes it possible for anyone to build applications that integrate directly with clinical workflows without rebuilding expensive Electronic Medical Records systems. We believe code has the potential to save more lives than doctors can by themselves.

Founded by doctors-turned-programmers, our team leverages open, vendor-neutral standards like openEHR, FHIR, SMART, and SNOMED CT to create a platform that makes healthcare data accessible, interoperable, and useful.

Our Culture

We are a team that values deep work, clear communication, and continuous learning. We are building technology that matters, and we are looking for individuals who want their code to make a difference in healthcare.
