Job description

Retail Success is seeking a mid to senior level Cloud Engineer to join our team in Overland Park, KS. This position participates in the creation and maintenance of development, test, and production environments with a goal of high availability, fault-tolerance, and scalability. Responsibilities span cloud architecture, security, multi-tenancy, DevOps practices, and access control methods.

The Cloud Engineer works closely with a co-located team of Cloud Engineers, Software Engineers, QA Engineers, Product Owners, and a Data Engineer within an agile environment. The ideal candidate is a self-driven technologist who designs and develops systems, processes, and automation using AWS and Terraform - someone who is ready to grow into broader ownership of infrastructure over time.

Our robust solutions include Retail Success custom software solutions, Wayroo, and ByDesign Software., * Manage and support AWS environments, taking increasing ownership as experience grows.

  • Design infrastructure to support a high-availability, high-traffic system.
  • Participate in and support DevOps functions including CI/CD practices, deployments, and root cause analysis.
  • Construct and help enforce best-practice security policies.
  • Forecast and plan future infrastructure needs.
  • Ensure uptime through redundant and scalable solutions.
  • Triage and resolve production issues; provide 24x7 production support.
  • Identify and mitigate security threats; escalate and communicate issues appropriately.
  • Develop scripts and automation across a variety of scripting languages.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with team members on a regular basis.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Terraform?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Working with precision and purpose, where accuracy and reliability in production AWS environments aren’t just preferred - they’re the standard?

  • Building automation that eliminates the manual, repetitive work so the team can focus on what actually matters?
  • Having clear ownership over your piece of the system - knowing what’s yours and being proud of how it runs?, * Candidates must live in the Kansas City metro area or be willing to relocate before starting employment., * High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5+ years’ experience in designing and developing complex cloud solutions.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of AWS services including EC2, ELB, S3, SNS, SQS, and CloudFront.
  • Experience working in a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code.

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps (VSTS Build/Release, TFS Release Manager).
  • Experience collaborating closely with software development teams.
  • Growing fluency in Terraform for managing multi-environment configurations.
  • Experience solving complex infrastructure problems under pressure.
  • A developing vision for how cloud infrastructure should be designed and scaled.
  • Desire for an AWS architect certification., * Demonstrates ownership of projects - takes initiative, maintains accountability, and meets deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Approaches work with an eye for detail while keeping the big picture in mind.
  • Creative thinker focused on delivering practical, high-value solutions.
  • Effective communicator - clear and concise in both verbal and written communications; actively listens.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships across teams and functional areas.
