Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Database Administrator will be resp for database design & performance optimization, backup & recovery strategies & implementation, troubleshooting of development & production database problems & concurrent manager problems as well as monitoring the overall health of database environments. You will be responsible for the installation & configuration of the database & Webserver software, as well as for the design & configuration of the database environments. You will participate in the planning for hardware & software resources as it relates to the Oracle database & Webserver environments., DUTIES: Participate in the planning & implementation of the HW/SW configuration & related database server environ. Install/configure/support relational database management system (RDBMS) & related SW such as Oracle Webserver. Install product patches. Create & manage the physical implementation of individual databases. Develop & implement backup/recovery strategies & procedures for applications database environments using SQL-Backtrack SW. Establish & automate the scheduling of database maintenance functions of RDBMS prod apps. Develop & implement automated monitoring of key database server components & events. This activity includes using Patrol SW. Plan/implement/monitor database disk space usage for app database environments. Provide expert info & advice to app dev to assist them in making the most effective & efficient use of database management system capabilities. Monitor & analyze database system performance & resource usage;implement solutions that improve the resp of server functions. Perform prob diagnosis of RDBMS environment problems & interface w/vendors. Dev & enforce physical database naming standards. Assist in the evaluation & implementation of marketplace tools & utilities which enhance the database server environment.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS: BA in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combo of education & experience. Demonstrated exp w/the installation & operation of ORacle RDMNS & related products on a Unix-based platform. Exp w/Sybase is a plus. Knowledge of Oracle Applications architecture & exp w/monitoring & troubleshooting concurrent manager problems is required. Exp w/general SW development cycle phases, including requirements specification, modeling, system design, database dev, documentation, & maintenance. Ability to analyze & solve problems w/little supervision. Ability to work independently, & manage time effectively demonstrated by establishing work plans & meeting deadlines, as well as ability & willingness to be a productive & cooperative member of a team. Effective oral & written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively & work comfortably in a systems development environment w/concurrent tasks & changing priorities/resources. Exp in server architecture, implementation, & deployment, and extensive experience with database server administration required.
