Job description

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Mainframe Developer for a hybrid opportunity for candidates in Columbia, SC. The Candidate will support the development, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise mainframe applications that support critical business functions. This role requires a hands-on developer who can contribute across the software development lifecycle while collaborating with technical teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions., * Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance mainframe applications and related system components.

  • Create and support COBOL programs, JCL processes, and database-driven solutions utilizing DB2 and IMS.
  • Analyze requirements and develop technical solutions that meet business and operational needs.
  • Perform unit testing, participate in system and integration testing activities, and resolve application defects.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, implement corrective actions, and support ongoing system stability.
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver application enhancements, maintain documentation, and support modernization efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in application development, systems testing, application support, or related information technology functions.
  • Experience developing and supporting enterprise mainframe applications in a large-scale environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies: COBOL, JCL, DB2, and IMS.
  • Experience analyzing business and technical requirements and translating them into effective software solutions.
  • Ability to perform application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and production support activities.
  • Experience working with database-driven applications and batch processing environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in both independent and team-oriented environments.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Mainframe Developer:

  • Experience working with CICS in enterprise mainframe environments.
  • Exposure to mainframe modernization or system transformation initiatives.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, business-critical applications.
  • Strong production support and issue resolution experience.
  • Knowledge of application integration and enterprise system support processes.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle methodologies and best practices.
