Senior Database Architect

This position supports a mission-critical federal program focused on enterprise IT portfolio rationalization, modernization, and governance within a federal agency’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Our team discovers, documents, and rationalizes a large and complex enterprise IT estate - spanning networks, infrastructure, applications, data, and identity - to establish an authoritative baseline and chart a clear path toward a consolidated, well-governed target state. We seek professionals who are not only technically proficient but also adaptable, analytical, and dedicated to excellence, ensuring that we continue to provide our clients with the best expertise available., The Senior Database Architect serves as the authoritative technical lead for understanding, documenting, and rationalizing the enterprise data estate. This is a design- and discovery-focused architecture role, not a database administration role. The Senior Database Architect discovers where data lives, maps how it moves between systems, identifies fragmented and duplicated data, and develops the data models and system-of-record definitions that consolidation and modernization decisions depend on. The role partners closely with the broader architecture team to align the data picture with the program’s rationalization, master-data, and modernization objectives., This is a full-time, onsite role based in Washington, D.C., requiring availability during normal business hours, with occasional night and weekend work as needed based on program demands. The Senior Database Architect works closely with executive leadership and cross-functional engineering teams across applications, cloud, identity, service management, and enterprise architecture, and supports governance processes and milestone reviews throughout the program., * Discover and document the enterprise database estate and data stores across the environment

• Map data flows, integration points, and authoritative systems of record
• Identify fragmented and duplicated data that should share a single source of truth
• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support rationalization and the target state
• Frame data-consolidation and integration paths toward a consolidated, well-governed target state
• Define how each data store aligns to the enterprise unique-identifier and master-data framework, in partnership with the CMDB and service management team
• Partner with application, cloud, identity, and enterprise architecture teams to align data architecture with modernization objectives
• Produce professional-grade data architecture artifacts, models, and documentation
• Support governance processes, technical reviews, and milestone gates, and brief findings to leadership and federal stakeholders
• Identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement in partnership with the broader team

Do you have experience in Systems integration?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Professional database or data-management certification required, such as DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
• One or more of the following strongly preferred: a Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF)-based enterprise architecture credential (e.g., FEAC Institute ACEA or CEA); AWS Certified Database - Specialty or Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate; CompTIA Security+; ITIL 4 Foundation, * At least 10 years of progressive experience in database and data architecture, data modeling, and data integration
• Deep, hands-on expertise across enterprise database platforms, with a design- and discovery-oriented (rather than administration-oriented) focus
• Experience discovering, mapping, and rationalizing data estates in large, complex enterprise environments; federal experience preferred
• Proven track record defining systems of record and reducing data fragmentation and duplication

Technical Expertise

• Enterprise relational database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and familiarity with NoSQL stores (e.g., MongoDB)
• Data modeling at conceptual, logical, and physical levels, including normalization and schema design
• Data integration patterns (ETL/ELT, APIs, messaging) and end-to-end data flow mapping
• Systems-of-record identification and master data management (MDM) concepts
• Data discovery, cataloging, and metadata management tools
• Data quality, deduplication, and consolidation approaches
• Cloud data platforms and migration (e.g., Azure, AWS)
• Working knowledge of federal data governance and security frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53) and data management best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
