Job description
- The PACS SME serves as the expert resource for Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) solutions within the healthcare environment.
- This role is responsible for the design, implementation, integration, administration, and optimization of PACS and associated imaging informatics systems, ensuring seamless clinical workflow and data integrity., * Serve as the primary subject matter expert for PACS and related imaging informatics systems across the organization.
- Oversee the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of PACS, RIS (Radiology Information System), VNA (Vendor Neutral Archive), and related modalities.
- Provide technical leadership in the integration of PACS with EMR/EHR systems and other clinical applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex PACS-related issues, working closely with radiology, IT, and vendor support teams.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials for users and IT staff.
- Lead and support PACS upgrade projects, migrations, and system enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA), standards (e.g., DICOM, HL7), and best practices in imaging data management.
- Conduct user training and provide ongoing support to radiologists, technologists, and clinicians.
- Analyze workflow and user requirements to recommend system improvements for efficiency and quality of care.
- Monitor system performance, storage, and backup processes, and recommend capacity planning strategies.
- Participate in on-call support and after-hours maintenance as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with PACS administration, configuration, and support in a healthcare environment.
- Deep understanding of imaging workflows, modalities (CT, MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound, etc.), and integration standards (DICOM, HL7, IHE).
- Experience with major PACS platforms (e.g., GE Centricity, Philips IntelliSpace, Sectra, Fuji Synapse, Agfa, etc.).
- Knowledge of RIS, VNA, and EMR/EHR systems integration.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to train and support clinical users at various technical levels.
Preferred:
- PACS certification (e.g., CIIP), experience with cloud-based PACS solutions, scripting/automation skills.
