Job description
This position is responsible for performing internal customer consulting, user and system support. Supporting multiple information technology systems and subsystems, which includes performing systems analysis, network administration and server administration. Maintains networks, servers, and other enterprise computing systems, and serves as a primary point of contact for the IT Helpdesk during an assigned shift. The position also supports hardware-centric technology systems, including fleet department equipment and the onboard local area network (LAN) that connects devices on each vehicle, performing basic TCP/IP-level troubleshooting to identify connectivity issues between onboard systems. Must be able to formulate technical solutions to technical needs and successfully integrate those solutions into the operational environment., 1. Serves as a primary point of contact for the IT Helpdesk during an assigned shift, triaging, documenting, and resolving tier 1 and tier 2 support requests, and escalating complex issues to the Systems Administrator or Systems & Cybersecurity Manager.

Supports enterprise computing systems (wiring plant, networks, servers, telecommunications and related sub-systems) including design, maintenance, upgrades, monitoring, security and optimization.

Supports implementation of enterprise computing systems including selection, procurement, project management and installation.

Supports telecommunications systems.

Administers user computing systems (workstations, printers, scanners, fax, copiers, user productivity software) including installation, repair, user questions and training.

Provides first tier technical support to users and customers.

Implements and supports hardware-centric systems such as fleet department laptops and other fleet technology, and performs basic troubleshooting of the onboard local area network (LAN) connecting devices on each vehicle.

Maintains fleet department laptops on a recurring schedule, including confirming software licenses remain active and applying vendor updates, to prevent equipment failures before they occur.

Serves as the primary IT point of contact for the Fleet & Facilities Division on day-to-day laptop issues, including coordinating prompt repair or replacement of affected equipment.

Identifies customer needs, explains services clearly and promptly. Responds to requests, questions, complaints and operational problems.

Creates technical and user documentation.

Develops and delivers IT-related training to end-users.

Participates in agency wide technology planning and implementation.

Apply Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices.

Supports and provides back-up for other IT staff and functions, including coordinating helpdesk coverage where applicable.

WORKING CONDITIONS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Duties are performed primarily in an office environment but also require traveling between agency headquarters and transit stations, on routes and to various other locations. Travel is generally within Whatcom County, with occasional trips to regional and national meetings and training courses. Typical office equipment used to accomplish job tasks: computer, cell phone, printer, photocopier/scanner, calculator, and telephone.

KNOWLEDGE:
*Network design & administration

*Current technological developments/trends
*Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices
*Helpdesk ticketing and incident management practices
*TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including basic diagnostics
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*Install, configure, backup and generally support servers
*Install, configure, backup and generally support networking equipment
*Install, configure and support enterprise computing systems
*Diagnose and repair end-user hardware, including laptops and workstations, *Education: Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Networking, or related field from an accredited school required OR equivalent education and experience.
*Experience: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in network administration, systems administration, or technical helpdesk support.
Other combinations of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired qualifications required to perform the job may be considered.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATES:
*Valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire in order to operate WTA vehicles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
*Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
*Must be able to lift 40 pounds at times.
*Must be able to access and navigate each division at the organization’s facilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
*Participation in WTA’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program is a requirement of employment which includes reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
*Must pass a comprehensive background check.
*Must pass a credit history check.
