Job description

Reporting to the Chief of Staff of the Henderson Biorepository, the Biorepository Data Analyst supports end-to-end human clinical biospecimen inventory operations. You’ll partner with biorepository staff, researchers, vendors, and Research Informatics to strengthen data quality, streamline workflows, and expand system capabilities so biospecimens are received, tracked, reported, and shipped accurately across sites

As a successful candidate you will:

Biorepository Data Activities:

  • Own LabVantage (COH biospecimen inventory tracking) and/or other Biobanking LIMS features; help implement the selected system at all COH locations (travel may be required).
  • Serve as COH’s technical representative to the LIMS vendor (LabVantage or other proprietary biobank system).
  • Train and onboard researchers using the inventory system for laboratory biospecimen tracking.
  • Be knowledgeable about the service and cost recovery software, iLab.
  • Design efficient receiving and inventory processes with biorepository staff; generate shipping manifests for biospecimen shipments.
  • Enhance barcode scanning at receipt; design interfaces to liquid handling systems and automated freezer storage units; create new biorepositories in the inventory system for researchers.

Research Informatics Interfaced Activities:

  • Partner with Epic software staff to improve communication between Epic and the biospecimen inventory system; with the Chief of Staff, collaborate with Honest Broker staff to improve biospecimen queries.
  • Inform Research Informatics on new users and iLab-related workflow enhancements at an agreed cadence; prepare and execute weekly, monthly, and annual metrics/status reports; monitor data and provide dashboards and updates; validate user requirements as software iterations are built.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a relevant field; 3 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing data operations within a biorepository and/or supporting biorepositories.
  • Experience with Biobank LIMS or laboratory operations, including workflows, data management, or quality/compliance processes as related to biospecimen life cycle management.
  • Experience in Software Development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Project Management Certificate (PMC) III or higher.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Perl.
  • 4+ years of experience as a data analyst, preferably in a research/academic environment.
  • Familiarity with genetic testing results.
  • Experience with searching large clinical oncology data sets.

Additional Information:

  • COH employees may apply for a transfer or promotion to job openings for which they meet the minimum qualifications if they meet the following criteria:
  • Employed at COH in current role for at least one year, unless otherwise stipulated in an applicable collective bargaining agreement.
  • Are in good standing and have no current performance issues.
