Job description

As a Senior Database Administrator, you’ll bring depth in Oracle database administration to support Purdue’s enterprise student systems. You’ll work under limited supervision, leading the administration of both production and non-production environments that directly support student success and institutional operations., * Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise Oracle databases in Exadata

  • Proactively monitor system performance and security, anticipating challenges before they impact users
  • Develop and apply innovative solutions-including custom scripts and utilities-to enhance efficiency and reliability
  • Implement and uphold University policies for database security and compliance
  • Collaborate with developers on design recommendations, physical models, and integration efforts
  • Document configuration and operational procedures with precision and clarity
  • Serve as a technical lead on projects, guiding architecture and design discussions across teams focused on student service solutions
  • You will work on the latest technology form Oracle in Exadata, moving the university forward with automation and creativity

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Oracle database administration in Exadata for enterprise systems
  • Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to performance optimization and issue prevention
  • Capacity to translate complex technical policies into practical, operational solutions
  • Curiosity and initiative to explore innovative tools and processes
  • Commitment to teamwork and communication across technical disciplines, Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer technology, computer science, computer engineering or related technical field preferred
  • At least four (4) years progressively responsible experience in database, systems, application administration.
  • This experience should include Oracle database administration and experience in the Ellucian Banner suite of products
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted

Preferred:

  • A current Oracle certification and experience with Oracle database administration in Oracle Exadata
  • Experience in Ellucian Banner suite of products

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated skills:
  • in and knowledge of all aspects of database administration, including troubleshooting complex issues, application server and database tuning, performance monitoring, upgrading, patching, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, Data Guard, Oracle RAC, Exadata, and cloning
  • with various methods of Oracle performance tuning including configuration, table partitioning, and data storage in an Exadata environment
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • troubleshoot beyond the database environment and into related operating systems and application areas
  • research and troubleshoot complex problems independently and the ability to work in a team environment
  • install, administer, maintain, support and monitor the performance of various vendor and open source software, including managing upgrades and patches
  • Strong SQL, Oracle and/or UNIX shell scripting skills
  • Good communication skills are necessary to interact with customers, partners, and other IT teams in a professional manner
  • Must be willing and able to own responsibility for critical database/information systems
  • Ability to:
  • be self-motivated and manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines
  • work evening and/or weekends as needed to support scheduled updates and unplanned outages on a 24 hour per day, 365 day per year basis
