Job description
Client is hiring a Web Accessibility Specialist on a 3-year contract (37.5 hrs/week, renewable annually) to primarily remediate PDFs for accessibility compliance. 1 The role is fully remote, requires Eastern Standard Time availability, and preference is given to New York State residents., * Primary focus: PDF remediation for accessibility compliance; secondary support for web page analysis
- Team context: Supplements an existing accessibility specialist who handles website work; volume of PDFs exceeds current capacity
- Contract: 3-year term, renewed annually; 37.5 hours/week
- CMS platforms: Currently Sitecore; potential migration to WordPress or Drupal; ticketing via Lithos (Ignite)
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience testing and remediating PDFs and web pages for accessibility
- Extensive knowledge of WCAG 2.2 (A and AA) and PDF/UA standards
- Expert use of Adobe Acrobat Pro, PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker), CommonLook, and screen reader NVDA
- Deep understanding of PDF semantic tag structures (heading hierarchy, lists, paragraphs) and logical reading order
- Ability to validate and remediate color contrast ratios while adhering to brand guidelines 8
- Proficiency in semantic HTML; familiarity with web tools: WAVE, Siteimprove, Accessibility Insights for Web
- Ability to write accurate alt text / image descriptions for complex graphs and illustrations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Adobe InDesign experience is a plus
- Knowledge of SEO principles is beneficial
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Associate’s degree in a related field
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or certificate in accessibility remediation
