Job description

We are seeking a Section 508 Testing & Remediation Specialist to ensure our digital products, web applications, electronic documents, and software solutions comply with federal accessibility standards under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA guidelines.

In this role, you will perform rigorous manual and automated accessibility testing, identify compliance gaps, provide actionable remediation guidance to software developers and content creators, and assist in drafting accessibility documentation (including VPATs). You will serve as a key subject matter expert driving accessibility best practices across design, development, and delivery teams in support of government programs., * Conduct thorough automated and manual accessibility testing on web applications, mobile apps, desktop software, and electronic documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Test digital assets using leading assistive technologies (AT), including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), screen magnifiers (ZoomText), speech recognition software (Dragon), and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Identify, document, and track accessibility bugs using issue-tracking platforms (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps), providing detailed steps to reproduce and clear compliance references., * Provide hands-on remediation guidance to front-end developers, UX/UI designers, and content authors to resolve complex accessibility barriers (e.g., ARIA attributes, semantic HTML, focus management, color contrast, dynamic content).
  • Remediate digital files and documents (specifically complex PDFs, forms, and multimedia content) to ensure full compliance with Section 508 standards.
  • Conduct code reviews and audit accessibility trees, DOM structures, and design components within design systems.

Compliance Reporting & Governance

  • Draft and maintain Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPAT 2.4/INT or Revised Section 508 Edition) and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs).
  • Maintain test cases, compliance matrices, and remediation logs for internal audits and client-facing deliverables.
  • Stay up to date on evolving federal accessibility regulations, Section 508 refreshed guidelines, WCAG updates, and industry tools.

Training & Mentorship

  • Educate product managers, designers, developers, and content teams on accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
  • Help establish and refine digital accessibility testing standards, workflows, and automated pipeline integration (CI/CD).

Requirements

**Must possess an active DHS Public Trust suitability determination or an active DoD Secret security clearance., * Security Clearance: Must possess an active DHS Public Trust suitability determination or an active DoD Secret security clearance (or have the ability to obtain and maintain one based on contract specifications).

  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required due to government contract security mandates., * Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience performing accessibility testing, remediation, and reporting for web applications, mobile apps, or digital documents.
  • Standards Expertise: Deep, working knowledge of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 (Levels A and AA), and WAI-ARIA 1.2 specifications.
  • Assistive Technology Proficiency: Hands-on experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and standard AT configurations.
  • Testing Tools: Experience with automated audit tools (e.g., axe, WAVE, Deque Worldspace, ARC, Accessibility Insights, Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in semantic HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and WAI-ARIA practices. Ability to read and debug front-end code to recommend structural fixes.
  • Document Remediation: Demonstrated experience remediating complex digital documents (PDFs, Microsoft Office Suite) using tools like Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, CommonLook, or Equidox.
  • Documentation: Proven experience writing clear defect reports, remediation steps, and standard VPAT / ACR documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as:
  • DHS Trusted Tester Certification (v5+) (highly preferred)
  • IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)
  • IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS)
  • Development Background: Prior experience as a front-end developer or UI engineer working with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
  • Federal Contracting Experience: Experience working within US Federal Government environments or government contracting projects subject to Section 508 compliance reviews.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $90,000 - $154,00.00.
