Requirements
Do you have experience in Software development?, * Genuinely AI-native: You use tools like Cursor and Claude as a core part of how you work - every day, not occasionally. You understand how to direct AI well, not just prompt it
- Commercially curious: You care about why something is being built, not just what. You want to understand the business model, the customer, the operational constraint - because that context is what makes your solutions actually work
- Proactive and autonomous: You manage your own backlog, flag blockers early, and drive things to completion. You don’t wait to be told what to do next
- A clear communicator: You write good tickets, keep people informed without being asked, and can explain a technical decision to someone non-technical without making them feel stupid
- Adaptable: You didn’t need to know our stack before you started - because you’re the kind of person who picks things up. Curiosity and capability matter more than prior experience with specific tools
- Ambitious: You want to be somewhere that’s moving fast, building real things, and where your work directly shapes what the business can do
What We’re Not Looking For
This role probably isn’t right for you if you’re most comfortable when requirements are fully defined before you start, if you prefer to stay in your lane technically, or if the idea of sitting with a customer experience team to understand their day feels outside your remit.
We’re not hiring on years of experience or a checklist of frameworks. We’re hiring on how you think, how curious you are, and whether you’re genuinely excited by the way software development is changing.
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, Not Essential)
- Built something with AI - a side project, a tool for a previous employer, anything that shows you build things rather than just talk about them
- Worked in a small, fast-moving team where you had to figure things out without a playbook
- Contributed to a product beyond just writing code - roadmap input, stakeholder communication, ticket writing
- Self-taught something significant - a language, a framework, a tool - when you needed to
- A background in or genuine interest in ecommerce, manufacturing, or operational businesses
Benefits & conditions
Pulled from the full job description
- Employee discount
- Free parking
- Company pension
- Casual dress
- Cycle to work scheme
- On-site parking, * Real ownership: You won’t be the fifth person to touch a ticket. You’ll own things from idea to live, with direct visibility of the impact
- A business worth understanding: 90+ people, multiple teams, a manufacturing floor, a growing trade customer base - there’s no shortage of interesting problems to get your teeth into
- A technically ambitious environment: We actively invest in AI tooling, we build our own systems, and we’re not slowing down
- A small, high-trust team: No layers of management, no death by meetings. Just smart people working on problems that matter
- Room to grow: We’d rather develop people than hire over them
Interested?
Don’t send us a generic application. Tell us something real - show us something you’ve built with AI, explain how you work, or just tell us why this role caught your attention. We’re more interested in how you think than what’s on your CV.

About the company
At CutMy.co.uk, we’re on a mission to make DIY simple, sustainable, and enjoyable. Guided by our CARE values - Communication, Action, Respect, and Empowerment - we believe in building a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. We move fast, we build real things, and we want people who are genuinely invested in making the business better - not just shipping code., We’re a fast-growing precision manufacturing business with 90+ employees, a custom-built ecommerce platform, and a product roadmap that never gets shorter. Across production, customer experience, logistics, and marketing, there are constantly problems worth solving - and the people best placed to solve them are the ones who genuinely understand how those teams work.
That’s what this role is really about. Our best developers aren’t just technically capable - they’re embedded in the business. They know who to talk to. They understand what a CX agent actually struggles with, what slows production down, what a customer experiences when something goes wrong. That context is what turns a technically correct solution into one that actually makes a difference.
You’ll use AI as the engine that lets you move fast - prototyping, iterating, shipping - but the ideas behind what you build will come from curiosity about the business and the people in it. If you’re the kind of person who gets genuinely interested in how things work, spots the fix nobody else noticed, and builds it before anyone’s finished writing the brief - you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
- Understand before you build: Spend time with the teams around you - CX, production, marketing, operations. Learn what they’re actually trying to do and where things break down. That understanding is the foundation for everything you build
- Own features end-to-end: From identifying the problem through to shipping the solution - with AI doing the heavy lifting on the code
- Use AI as your co-pilot: Orchestrate AI tools to prototype fast, iterate faster, and act as the quality layer that makes output production-ready
- Contribute to the roadmap: Spot opportunities, flag problems, push back when priorities don’t make sense. We want your opinion, not just your output
- Communicate proactively: Keep stakeholders informed without being chased, write clear tickets, and make sure the people affected by your work know what’s coming
- Be daring: Jump to the ideal solution rather than the safe one. Build the prototype, ship it, learn from it. We’d rather see ambitious work that needs a tweak than cautious work that solves half the problem
Who Thrives Here
People who are genuinely curious about the business, not just the code. Our strongest developers know who to talk to when they’re scoping something, ask questions that make stakeholders realise they hadn’t fully thought it through, and come up with ideas that nobody else spotted because they were paying attention.
