Job description

Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure & Workplace Services, this key role ensures we provide the most efficient, resilient and cost optimized database service to our business partners within Energy Management and B2B.

Your Mission

The Team Leader DBA is responsible for leading the Database Administration team and ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and operability of the database landscape across ENGIE Global Markets. The role oversees strategic roadmap execution, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of database services, while supporting business-critical trading, risk, and reporting platforms. The Team Leader acts as both a hands-on technical expert and a people manager, coordinating workloads, defining standards, and fostering a high-performance culture within the DBA team.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of DBAs supporting all GEMS business and IT applications.
  • Organize priorities, manage workload distribution, and ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage skills development plans.
  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Database Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Sybase, MongoDB, Cloud PaaS DB, etc.).
  • Ensure high availability, capacity planning, performance tuning, and resilience of database environments.
  • Guarantee strong backup/restore processes and disaster recovery readiness.

Architecture & Roadmap

  • Define and maintain database standards, architectures, and lifecycle policies.
  • Contribute to Infra roadmap construction and execution, automation, and modernization initiatives.
  • Support application teams with database design, optimization, and migration.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with ENGIE cybersecurity policies, audit requirements, and regulatory constraints.
  • Implement and maintain database security, access controls, patching, and vulnerability remediation.

Project Delivery & Business Support

  • Participate in project planning and provide DBA expertise for application changes, new implementations, and upgrades.
  • Coordinate with Production, Application Support, and Architecture teams to ensure smooth deployments.
  • Provide L3 technical escalation support and problem resolution.

Requirements

Hard skills

  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following: Sybase, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Knowledge of cloud database services (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL Flexible Server, managed DB services).
  • Scripting / automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Understanding of performance analysis & tuning; high availability & clustering; backup, restore, replication, DR; monitoring and alerting tools.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, or Infrastructure as Code concepts.

Soft skills

  • Leadership and ability to develop team capabilities.
  • Strong communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset and resilience under operational pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize, arbitrate, and drive decisions.
  • Client-oriented, collaborative, and proactive attitude., * Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certifications are a plus (Oracle OCP, Microsoft MCSE/DP, PostgreSQL certifications, Azure certifications).
  • 10+ years in database administration within complex and high-availability environments.
  • 7+ years in trading or financial markets environments
  • Proven track record of delivering infrastructure or modernization projects.
