Job description
Purpose of the Position: Lead end-to-end solution architecture for the Azure to GCP migration program, aligning business requirements with scalable, secure designs across BigQuery, Databricks, GCS, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer, and enabling an enterprise reporting layer on Strategy (MicroStrategy).
Key Result Areas and Activities:
- Discovery & Planning: Drive scope confirmation, current-state assessment, prioritization; define assumptions, constraints, and migration rationalization approach.
- Target Solution Design: Finalize target architecture across GCP (BigQuery as serving layer, GCS, Pub/Sub, Composer) with Databricks as the integration engine and Strategy as the BI tool; tighten medallion patterns on GCP.
- Data & Pipeline Migration Architecture: Govern patterns for batch/streaming ingestion, Azure to GCP data moves, and orchestration integration (Composer Databricks Jobs).
- BI & Semantic Layer Enablement: Guide rebuild of semantic models on BigQuery, and dashboard rationalization for Power BI to Strategy migration.
- Google Workspace Transition: Oversee conversion of VBA/Access macros into Apps Script or Databricks pipelines, ensuring business logic parity.
- Governance & Security: Establish standards for cost control, performance, data quality, lineage, documentation, and compliance across platforms.
Requirements
- Proven experience architecting on GCP with BigQuery, GCS, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer, and leading Azure to GCP migrations at enterprise scale.
- Deep expertise with Databricks (lakehouse/medallion, jobs/orchestration integration, performance/cost governance).
- Ability to translate business needs into secure, scalable architectures and guide cross-functional delivery teams (engineers, BI, Workspace).
Desirable Skills:
- Prior success rationalizing portfolios (not lift-and-shift) and optimizing dependencies across related solutions.
- Exposure to Apps Script/AppSheet solutions intertwined with data pipelines
- Hands-on in Semantic model design for BI and enabling Strategy (MicroStrategy) as enterprise BI.
- Retail domain knowledge is a plus
- Experience of working with Agile.
Qualifications:
- BE Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or other technical disciplines.
- Architecture certifications on GCP/Databricks preferred (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect, Databricks Architect).
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-workstream cloud data programs.
Qualities:
- Proven ability to develop successful relationships with external and internal partners.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving, multi-tasking, troubleshooting skills with a high degree of flexibility.
- Demonstrated self-leadership with the ability to work independently, lead team and manage conflict.
- Proven learning agility as data technologies and capabilities evolve rapidly.
- Should be able to provide technical support to other team members as required.
