Senior QA Automation Engineer

This is a London based role with an excellent immediate start within a Public Sector organisation working on Designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks for UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.

We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to join a high-performing technology team responsible for delivering complex, enterprise-scale applications and integrations. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about quality engineering, automation, and ensuring robust end-to-end user experiences across multiple interconnected systems.

You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing modern test automation frameworks, driving quality across UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing, and helping teams build confidence in every release.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Create and execute automated smoke, regression, and core user journey test suites covering both happy and unhappy paths.
• Validate complex business processes spanning multiple systems and APIs.
• Test cross-system workflows and state changes where data is propagated between platforms.
• Ensure the quality and resilience of integrations, including testing failure scenarios, timeouts, and degraded dependencies.
• Support feature-flagged releases and validate behaviour across multiple configuration states.
• Verify data integrity across imports, exports, synchronisation processes, and system integrations.
• Collaborate closely with developers, product teams, and operational stakeholders to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Support and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities with business and operational teams.
• Contribute to performance and load testing initiatives to ensure systems perform effectively at scale.

• Proven experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks in complex environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and/or Cypress for end-to-end test automation.
• Experience testing applications and services developed using Kotlin and TypeScript.
• Strong API testing experience, including testing modern integrations and Legacy system interactions.
• Experience testing distributed systems with multiple APIs and complex service dependencies.
• Knowledge of integration resilience testing, including failure handling, retries, timeout scenarios, and degraded service conditions.
• Experience with contract testing tools such as PACT.
• Strong understanding of enterprise-scale application testing and large distributed architectures.
• Experience validating cross-system data flows and ensuring data consistency across multiple platforms.
• Knowledge of relational databases and experience testing data-driven applications using PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify edge cases, operational risks, and failure scenarios.

Desirable

• Experience with data migration testing, including data mapping, transformation, and validation.
• Experience with performance and load testing tools such as Gatling.
• Experience working within highly regulated or large-scale public sector environments.
