Job description

The System Administrator will help manage, support, and maintain the company s core IT infrastructure, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, VMware, backup systems, storage, and related infrastructure tools. This role requires a dependable, hands-on administrator who can support production systems, respond to issues, participate in an on-call rotation, and communicate clearly during incidents. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, comfortable troubleshooting under pressure, and capable of contributing to infrastructure improvements through automation, scripting, and operational best practices as the environment evolves. This position participates in an on-call rotation, expected to be approximately one week every four weeks., * Systems Administration: Monitor, maintain, and support Windows Server environments, infrastructure systems, and related tools to ensure availability, performance, and security.

  • Active Directory and Group Policy: Administer Active Directory, security groups, user/group permissions, Group Policy, print services, and related access controls.
  • Microsoft 365 Administration: Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, licensing, mailbox administration, user access, and troubleshooting.
  • Identity and Access Management: Support IAM, SSO, MFA, lifecycle management, user provisioning/deprovisioning, authentication troubleshooting, and identity integration initiatives in coordination with application owners. Identity management platforms include Active Directory, Entra ID, and Okta.
  • VMware Administration: Support VMware vSphere environments, including virtual machines, hosts, clusters, resource monitoring, snapshots, and general troubleshooting.
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Support: Support virtual desktop environments, including VMware Horizon, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), user profile management, access controls, performance troubleshooting, and related technologies.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Security: Support backup systems, recovery procedures, patching, security controls, and redundancy strategies to protect company systems and data.
  • Storage Administration: Assist with enterprise storage administration, capacity monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Azure Administration: Administer and support Azure infrastructure services including virtual machines, storage, networking, RBAC, Azure Virtual Desktop, and related cloud resources.
  • SQL Server Operational Support: Provide operational support for SQL Server environments, including service monitoring, SQL Agent job review, backup verification, application/database connectivity troubleshooting, and coordination with database specialists or application teams as needed.
  • Automation, Scripting, and Infrastructure Engineering: Use PowerShell, automation tools, APIs, and related technologies to automate routine tasks, improve operational efficiency, support repeatable administration processes, and contribute to infrastructure improvement initiatives.
  • Monitoring, Documentation, and Incident Response: Respond to alerts and support tickets, investigate system and application issues, analyze monitoring and logging data, document changes, follow escalation procedures, and provide clear status updates during incidents.
  • Vendor and Team Coordination: Work with vendors, internal IT teams, and business users to resolve issues and participate in infrastructure projects involving system deployments, upgrades, migrations, and technology improvements., This person does not need to be an expert in every technology area on day one, but they should possess a strong foundation in Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, Microsoft 365, and enterprise infrastructure administration, along with an interest in automation, infrastructure improvement, and supporting modern hybrid environments.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of system administration experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server administration.
  • Strong experience with Active Directory, security groups, permissions, and Group Policy.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 / Office 365.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with backup/recovery systems and basic infrastructure security practices.
  • Experience using PowerShell to automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation, expected to be approximately one week every four weeks.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with identity and access management technologies, including Okta, SSO, MFA, PKI, Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS), or related platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, APIs, or configuration management tools such as PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise monitoring, observability, logging, or operational support platforms such as Zabbix, Sumo Logic, or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of modern infrastructure technologies including Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), FSLogix, SQL Server high availability solutions, CI/CD workflows, Azure infrastructure, enterprise storage platforms, or related enterprise technologies.

The successful candidate will be reliable, self-driven, and comfortable owning infrastructure support tasks from start to finish. They should be able to troubleshoot calmly under pressure, communicate clearly during issues, document their work, and follow through on assigned responsibilities.
