Job description
Data Supplies is seeking a motivated Technical Sales Specialist with strong IT and networking knowledge to support our customers and drive sales. In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for customers with technical questions - helping them select the right products, confirm compatibility, and understand functionality before they buy. You’ll focus primarily on Cisco and other enterprise networking hardware, and when a customer needs deeper configuration help, you’ll coordinate with our technical specialists to make sure they get it. This is a customer-facing role for someone who knows networking equipment, communicates clearly, and enjoys turning a technical question into a confident purchase., * Respond to customer inquiries about product selection, compatibility, specifications, and functionality - primarily for Cisco (Catalyst, Nexus, ISR/ASR, Meraki) and other enterprise networking brands.
- Recommend the correct products, modules, transceivers, optics, licenses, and accessories based on each customer’s existing equipment and requirements.
- Confirm part-number and platform compatibility (e.g., matching transceivers, modules, and licenses to specific switches and routers).
- Guide customers through pre-sales technical questions and resolve doubts that may be blocking a purchase.
- Act as the link between the customer and our technical/configuration specialists - identifying when a request needs deeper support and coordinating that handoff.
- Prepare quotes and follow up on bulk/business pricing requests and open opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and product recommendations.
- Stay current on product lines, new releases, and end-of-life/replacement equivalents.
Requirements
- Proven experience in technical sales or technical support within IT or networking, with a solid understanding of networking concepts.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise networking hardware, with emphasis on Cisco - including how products fit together (switches, routers, transceivers, modules, licensing).
- Ability to translate a customer’s requirement into the right product or configuration.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical buyers.
- Customer-first, sales-minded approach: helpful, responsive, and focused on solving the customer’s problem.
- Comfort coordinating across teams to get customers the support they need.
- Preferred: Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or Meraki accreditations).
- Preferred: Experience in IT distribution, VAR, or hardware reseller environments.
- Preferred: Familiarity with other lines we carry (HPE/Aruba, Fortinet, Juniper).
- Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish.
