Job description
Join the research group at ICS-HSG, University of St.Gallen. Contribute to innovative research in coding theory and cryptography.
Tasks
-
Conduct independent and collaborative research in matroid theory.
-
Develop theoretical frameworks for post-quantum cryptography.
-
Mentor students and participate in interdisciplinary discussions., The applicant will join the research group on coding theory and cryptography in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen. The ICS-HSG is a research institute specialized in computer science and dedicated to scientific excellence to foster economic growth and societal well-being. Our fields of expertise range from artificial intelligence, cyber security, data science, communication systems, human-computer interaction, programming languages, and software engineering. What We Offer:
-
A dynamic and collaborative research environment
-
Funding for travel to conferences and research visits
-
Opportunities to supervise students and co-author papers, We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team in exploring the intersection of matroid theory and post-quantum cryptography. This position is part of a larger effort to develop novel cryptographic constructions based on combinatorial and algebraic structures beyond lattices. The successful candidate will investigate how matroids-and related combinatorial structures-can be used to design cryptographic primitives that are secure against quantum adversaries. The Position Involves:
-
Conducting independent and collaborative research in matroid theory and its applications to post-quantum cryptography, including publications in leading journals and conferences
-
Developing new theoretical frameworks and exploring connections to cryptographic hardness assumptions
-
Collaborating with PhD students and contributing to joint research projects
-
Participating in group meetings, seminars, and interdisciplinary discussions
-
Providing light teaching support, such as mentoring, occasional guest lectures, or assisting with graduate-level courses
Requirements
- PhD in mathematics or theoretical computer science required.
- Strong background in matroid theory and algebraic combinatorics.
- Excellent communication skills in English essential., * PhD in mathematics or theoretical computer science
- Strong background in matroid theory, algebraic combinatorics, and discrete mathematics
- Interest or experience in cryptography, especially post-quantum cryptographic models
- Proven research ability and a strong publication record (relative to career stage)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
