AI Forward Engineer - Agentic Data Science

explai.com is a fast-moving Berlin AI startup on a mission to simplify data analytics for non-experts by building agents that automate data science workflows with deep business knowledge. We incorporated in 2024, launched our public sandbox in spring 2025, had run several proof of value by summer and are now ramping up our first paid customer installations.

We work remotely today but plan to open our Berlin office in 2026. We are bright, no-nonsense problem-solvers who move fast with high autonomy, minimal meetings, and maximum mutual respect. Don't come for the money, though we pay fairly. You will work hard (we ship almost daily), learn a ton, and make friends for life.

The Role

Joining a team of six, you will develop customer-specific data science tooling on our agentic AI platform, directly shaping how enterprises leverage our multi-agent system for their unique analytics needs. You'll work with a modern tech stack including GCP/AWS, LangChain/LangGraph, LangSmith/Langfuse, Python data science stack, Postgres, Snowflake, Docker, Redis, FastAPI, and React/Next.js.

What You'll Do

Build customer-specific data science tools and integrations that extend our agent platform to meet unique enterprise requirements Develop custom analytics workflows and pipelines tailored to customer data sources, business logic, and reporting needs Design and implement domain-specific agent capabilities that automate specialized data science tasks for different industries and use cases Create reusable component libraries and templates that accelerate delivery of customer solutions while maintaining code quality Collaborate with customers and internal teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions on our platform Optimize data processing pipelines to handle diverse data formats, sources, and scales across customer environments Integrate third-party tools and APIs to connect our platform with customer data ecosystems

5+ years of experience as a software engineer or data scientist with a focus on building data tools, analytics platforms, or customer-facing technical solutions Strong Python skills with experience in cloud computing and microservices architecture Experience with data science tooling and workflows, including familiarity with pandas, scikit-learn, or similar libraries Track record of translating customer requirements into technical solutions and working directly with enterprise clients Understanding of ML/AI systems, ideally with experience integrating or extending AI/ML platforms Comfort with full-stack development - able to build both backend services and user-facing tools when needed Startup mentality - comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and wearing multiple hats, Senior (5+ years of experience)
