Job description

  • Ensure the structural integrity of the fuel cell stack and its components
  • Develop 1D, 2D & 3D linear and non-linear FEM models for structural (static, dynamic & modal) analysis to support fuel cell stack and component design
  • Perform structural analyses (analytical & FEM) of fuel cell stack components made out of different linear and non-linear materials, e.g. metals, sealings and composites
  • Perform optimization, including topology optimization, for lightweight and vibration-robust fuel cell stack and component design
  • Create and evaluate sealing FEM models for bipolar plates and other fuel cell components
  • Act as the structural engineer interface to Airbus, providing required stack models

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create, execute and evaluate linear and nonlinear static and dynamic structural simulations (including modal analysis) of the fuel cell stack in 1D, 2D, and 3D
  • Conduct structural optimization for fuel cell components (e.g., for lightweight)
  • Perform sealing simulations for fuel cell components
  • Define, coordinate and evaluate validation tests for simulation models
  • Actively participate in the stack design team to provide support and optimization guidance throughout the complete development process (from concept design until final detailed design)
  • Verify the validity of compliance statements and demonstrations
  • Ensure the compliance of all used tools and processes
  • Create and manage documentation and archiving according to Airbus standards
  • Serve as the primary structural engineer simulation contact point for Airbus

Requirements

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following competences and skills:

  • Master's degree in aerospace/mechanical engineering or a related field

  • Several years of professional experience in structural evaluation, modeling and simulation (FEM)

  • Expertise in linear and nonlinear finite element analysis and modal analysis (Hyperworks and Abaqus proficiency is essential)

  • Expertise in optimization techniques and tools (e.g., topology optimization)

  • Expertise in analytical calculation methods (e.g., HSB - Handbook of Structural Analysis)

  • Competence in programming (e.g., Python)

  • Proficiency with 3D-CAD tools (e.g., Catia, 3DX)

  • Familiarity with High-Performance Computing (HPC)

  • Experience in fuel cell technology and fuel cell stack development is highly advantageous

  • Mindset and Soft Skills: Pragmatic, ambitious for simplicity, capability to thrive in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment, and a "Can-do attitude" with a drive for execution
