The Senior Developer Experience Engineer is a role in our newly formed Camunda Ex(perience) team within Camunda's Product Engineering department.
In this role, you will play a key part in improving the experience for developers using our Camunda 8 stack. From governing APIs, such as the Orchestration Cluster REST API, to shaping and creating development tools for Camunda 8, like native Camunda clients (Existing: Java, Javascript; Planned: Python, C#) and test libraries (Camunda Process Test), you'll have plenty of opportunities to leave your mark on the kick-ass polyglot Developer Experience we want to provide to our users!
In the new team and in this role specifically, you have the opportunity to have a significant impact on Camunda's adoption in the industry, with a strong focus on the developer persona, building on the strengths and reputation Camunda has already established in the past. As a developer yourself, you will internally advocate and contribute hands-on to a well-crafted experience that seamlessly meets the expectations of other developers.
This is a role for a person who brings technical capabilities, creativity, autonomy, and vision, utilizing these skills to continuously shape our product for the better, raising the overall bar on the Developer Experience.

What You'll Be Doing:
- In particular, your potential impact after 3 months with us, could look like the following:

REST API Governance o Steered the decision process on an API proposal o Resolved shortcomings of the current API Governance Process on cross-team collaboration o Extended Internal Developer Guidance on building new endpoints on our REST API

SDK/Development tools o Setup automated QA for client artifacts (Java, Javascript) and the system to ensure user-facing guarantees are met: semVer Public API guarantees, back- and/or forward compatibility o Actively contributed to the development of new native Clients (e.g., Python or C#), e.g. adding/contributing to a job worker framework o Improved existing clients (Java, Javascript) in one of the following ways: added a QoL improvement to the client - e.g., a generic backoff mechanism Extended our Camunda Spring Boot Starter by implementing one of the open feature requests
Requirements
- Ability and/or willingness to use our product
- Extensive experience (5 years+) writing and maintaining production code in Java, C#, JavaScript, or Python - being opinionated on what a good Developer Experience entails
- Extensive experience (3 years+) with building coherent server APIs with OpenAPI and utilizing language-specific code generators to create and efficiently maintain native clients
- Proven experience (3 years+) writing documentation, code samples, examples, videos, or blog posts tailored towards a developer community or another external user audience
- Ability to work asynchronously with teams and cross-functional groups across time zones to accomplish a singular goal
- To be truly successful in this role, you have a strong sense of "manager of one" - unblocking yourself when you're able, and when you're not, directly reaching out to the people who can help.

We offer competitive, fair, and transparent compensation. Salary ranges are location-based, with Standard and Major markets (global tech hubs) reflecting local competition.
The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) shown below spans from the minimum in a Standard market to the maximum in a Major market. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location, and we typically hire in the first half of the range to allow room for growth:
- United States: $143,800.00 to $231,900.00
- Germany: €92,900.00 to €153,700.00
- United Kingdom: £90,300.00 to £148,500.00
- Singapore: S$178,600.00 to S$267,900.00
If you're based elsewhere, you'll be hired via Remote.com (our global employer partner), and your Talent Acquisition Partner will provide a personalized Total Rewards Calculator after your first interview.
