Job description
Build enterprise cloud infrastructure that provides European data sovereignty and hyperscaler-grade capabilities. You'll work on SAP Cloud Infrastructure, solving complex distributed systems challenges at scale: multi-region networking, container orchestration, storage systems, and the APIs that connect them.
You'll develop solutions using Go, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, tackling problems like: How do you auto-scale thousands of containers across regions? How do you build resilient storage systems? How do you design APIs that handle massive traffic spikes?
Your work will power SAP's production systems and thousands of customer environments. You'll contribute to infrastructure that enables organizations to run mission-critical applications with the performance and reliability they expect from leading cloud platforms.
In your role as Development Architect, you'll design the foundational architecture for SAP Cloud Infrastructure, creating technical blueprints and architectural patterns for enterprise cloud services that provide European data sovereignty and hyperscaler-grade capabilities. You'll establish design principles for distributed systems that handle massive scale across thousands of customer environments.
Your architectural leadership will define how complex infrastructure challenges should be solved, from multi-region networking patterns to container orchestration architectures that auto-scale thousands of containers, and storage system designs that handle massive traffic spikes while maintaining sub-second response times. You'll create architectural standards using Go, OpenStack, and Kubernetes that enable teams to build production systems competing with leading cloud platforms.
Working on systems that serve SAP's global customer base, you'll establish architectural patterns and design standards that enable organizations to run mission-critical applications with enterprise-grade performance and reliability. Your architectural decisions will shape how European organizations build and deploy cloud infrastructure, directly supporting their ability to maintain data sovereignty while accessing world-class cloud capabilities.
Requirements

- Technical Leadership: 8+ years software development with 3+ years in architecture roles, leading decisions across multiple teams
- System Design Excellence: Proven experience with API design (REST, gRPC, event streaming), data architecture, and event sourcing/CQRS patterns
- Cloud & Performance: Deep expertise in OpenStack, Kubernetes, multi-cloud environments with advanced auto-scaling and caching skills
- Open Source Impact: Significant contributions to widely-adopted projects, preferably as maintainer in CNCF or Linux Foundation ecosystems
- Strategic Vision: Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs for vendor independence and establish patterns for open source ecosystems
