Job description
We're seeking a skilled and motivated HIL & Simulation Engineer (m/f/d) to join our engineering team and support the integration and validation of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). In this role, you will design and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems and simulation frameworks that accelerate system development and ensure robust performance across vehicle subsystems including drive, steering, braking, battery/BMS, and compute. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop automated test cases, integrate real hardware, and simulate complex environments-pushing the limits of autonomous systems validation.
If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, hands-on development environment where innovation, reliability, and system-level thinking matter, this is the role for you. To join our team, you should be excited to
- Design, build, and maintain HIL testbenches for drive, steering, braking, battery/BMS, compute subsystems, full vehicle systems, and other setups required for UGV development
- Develop UGV and environment simulation models to support integration and validation of components and software using tools such as Simscape, CANoe, or similar
- Author automated test cases; track test coverage and analyze results
- Integrate real hardware such as drivetrain components, sensors, and control units; develop custom interfaces and test harnesses
- Collaborate with software, electrical, and mechanical teams to define requirements, acceptance criteria, and test strategies
- Create dashboards and reports; triage defects with clear reproduction steps and logs; integrate software tools to support these tasks
- Support scenario generation based on field data; generate requirements and derive corresponding test scenarios
- Maintain versioned configurations, test data, and documentation to ensure traceability
- Promote best practices for safety, robustness, and repeatability in test environments
- Coordinate and manage external test and validation laboratories, including planning, commissioning, and follow-up of testing activities
Requirements
Do you have experience in Simulink?, * Experience with HIL development and operation, including testbench hardware, I/O integration, and fault injection
- Proficient in simulation and modeling using MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent tools
- Solid understanding of control systems fundamentals, including sensors, actuators, and vehicle systems, along with test automation
- Skilled in data logging, analysis, and requirements-based validation processes
- Basic proficiency in software programming and working with CAN or Ethernet-based communication protocols
- Strong team player who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced startup and problem-solving atmosphere
- Proactive and willing to take ownership of tasks; able to work independently and tackle real-world engineering challenges
